Not sure what counts as affordable, but I also need a 42" one and we've been looking here because they make a range of styles in both the design of the wood and the vanity top (you have to navigate around the site a bit to find the options for the different cabinets styles. These pages just show that they make one that is 42" and the different options for the granite and marble tops):

Can you buy the affordable one online, trash the counter that comes with it and get the counter you want?

Thanks for your quick help. The Strasserwood fits the bill although I was hoping for something more furniture-like. I thought of ditching the top also, just wish I could SEE the quality before I buy. Thanks again.

If you scroll through their pages they do have a "furniture style" but not sure it's the type you're looking for. Custom is not always as expensive as you think, really depends on the wood workers prices. I just had one made. 60 inch with inset shaker doors for under $1500 ( without the top).

They come in a furniture style (that's what I'm looking for too--white Shaker furniture style) though "furniture style" means different things to different people:

They have a list of dealers by state, and you can go to a dealer that carries that brand to see some in person. They can then order the style door etc you like.

$1500 isn't as bad as I thought. One designer on Houzz said it was about 1000 per foot. Maybe I read it wrong. Have to find the right person to do the work.

I got two prices that were $3000 for just the vanity (no top), my tile guys suggested this guy and I got a quote. Wow, what a difference! I also got a price for the countertop that was $5000 just for the top.
The person at the bath store where we bought the tub suggested a different place and it was $2000.
So yes, it could have cost me $1000 a foot, glad I found these other places, ask around before giving up.
