Cabinet base trim

last modified: 11 years ago

I finally put down my kitchen floor yesterday. My cabinets sit on the subfloor, so i need to trim my cabinet bases somehow. Not sure if I should use 1/4 round, or try to make new toe kicks or what exactly I should do. I am not to handy with measuring and cutting wood so trying to manufacture new toe kicks worries me. Anyone have any ideas??? (i love my floor!, it is just trafficmaster vinyl plank in hickory.)

It looks great! Can't help with trim, just wanted to let you know I think the floor rocks.

I see your toe kick under the cabinet but can't see anything other than those (which match your cabinets ) & your beautiful new floor. Why do you need to add additional trim to the cabinet base? Is the subfloor visible to you?

romy718, the 1/4 inch expansion gap of the flooring is visible next to the cabinets, and since I did the cutting of the luan, it is uneven at best. LOL

my cabinets sit directly on the tongue and groove sub floor.

There is a layer of plywood and a layer of linoleum (i think that's what it is) that ends at the cabinets. We removed another layer of plywood and 2 layers of vinyl tile. We had such a hard time getting up that layer that we decided not to remove the other layer of plywood and the linoleum. We put a layer of new luan down, then the vinyl planks. But it all ends at the cabinets, so I need to cover it somehow. Previous owners used a chair rail moulding. LOL Of course, they seemed to use that EVERYWHERE to cover up stuff they didn't want to fix. hahahahaha (I really dislike those people!)

nanyjwb. thanks. I bought all new shaker doors from barker and replaced the slab doors, and painted them in BM Wrought Iron. My uppers are painted BM Chantilly Lace. I like my new doors. I have been working on my kitchen for a year and 1/2 all DIY except the new counter and new window. Hopefully I will finish someday! LOL

When a finished floor is installed after the cabinets, always make sure you haven't "tiled in" your dishwasher. Shim it level with the new floor or you may get some incredibly bad news at replacement/service time.

I think I remember you. Did you go by another name on GW? The Barker doors ring a bell and that layout looks familiar.

The used 1/4 round on my cabs. Pretty standard I think.

Joseph, if I "tiled in" my dishwasher, I'd be in big trouble! Since it's the hubster!! We don't have a dishwasher, except a portable one, which we never used and is now down in the basement! LOL

Mayflowers, my login stuff and account is still the same, but my name was caseykees on gardenweb, when it switched to Houzz, they put my first and last name...which i removed my last name. I bought some quarter round this afternoon and will paint it to match the cabinets and put it on. I think that is my best solution. I guess if i decide i don't like it, i can always try something else.
