Thank you so much. Your advice is right on point. My problem is that I don't know whether I'll sell in the near future. That depends on so many factors. The white is so clean and fresh. I hate these decisions!!!

either will be beautiful. Consider colors from adjoining rooms and your kitchen ware and what styles you like. Also remember White shows every spill and drip. If you have windows and natural light I think cherry is much richer looking.

Selling in a few years or not, due to the size of the kitchen - and the "lack of" natural light, I'd go with the white painted Shaker style

Both white and natural cherry are beautiful choices. (As an aside, there are so many outdated kitchens in houses for sale in Ann Arbor; my guess is that you will be fine either way from a resale perspective.) White shaker cabinets are super trendy right now which is why your contractor is installing them everywhere. Light and bright seem to be the buzzwords. For me, white is a little hard to live with. It shows everything, and to me, it always feels a little cold. If it were me, I would look at as many kitchen photos as possible and see what I inherently gravitated toward.

I feel that if you "could get used to" a kitchen with painted white cabinets then you are just trying to convince yourself to like something because you were told its what's "on trend" right now. This is your house and your kitchen, so go with what your gut tells you. Look at all of the kitchen pics on Houzz and if you decide that you really want white painted cabinets then go ahead and get them, but if you have to convince yourself that you want them, don't get them.

There's an idea that's pervasive on Houzz that everyone and I do mean EVERYONE loves white cabinets and despises wood ones. That simply isn't true. Wood is very popular, and a lot of us love it and want it in our homes.

And the idea that you can't sell a home with quality wood cabinets is another myth. We've started looking at homes on Zillow.com in anticipation of moving back to where I grew up, and I can tell you that the cabinets are way down on the list of things that would keep us from buying a home. The type of heating and siding the house has are far, far more important than the cabinets or appliances so don't base your decision on something you may do in the future. Go with what you genuinely like, not what you think you should like.

I agree go with what your gut says never mind what is on trend that will change soon anyway and as for resale no matter what you choose there will be people who love it and people who don’t . When we did this kitchen all our friends were freaking out because it would harm resale , well the house sold in 11 days above asking price and it was the kitchen that the buyers loved.

I have white cabinets & while they "look pretty", I hate them. Constantly cleaning them. Constantly cleaning them. I don't care if "white" is the kitchen trend. I'm going Wood in my new house.

Nancy - Thank you so much for your comment on white kitchen cabinets. You have helped make my decision easier. My contractor and the designer at the kitchen store both favor white. My contractor recently said that no one will believe that my kitchen has been recently remodeled if I choose natural cherry. I think the white cabinets are beautiful and I could enjoy them, but cherry just seems to fit my home better. Every time that I look at the cherry sample door, it just seems to be the right choice for me. I've got to go ahead and make a decision this week. I should have decided three months ago, but issues kept popping up. Thank you.
