What is the term for...

I'm looking for outdoor plants that don't tend to lean out to the light. There's probably a general term for such. I've searched but, so far, haven't come up with the right words to yield the nomenclature I'm seeking. Having enjoyed the Forum for a number of years, I feel confident someone here can provide it.

Thinking 'shade tolerant' or 'shade loving' might be appropriate keywords...

& Floridata.com has a plant tags feature called that includes 'grows in shade' :

Tried to find online but brain feels overwhelmed -- need to get out in the yard and play! (Maybe "non-phototrophic"?)

Thanks, Carol, but shade definitely doesn't fit the site. It gets direct sun during the early part of the day but then as the sun moves over the house the light is less direct but, nevertheless, bright. I have a Hot Lips salvia there now but it's leaning out. Maybe I just have to prop it up to force "good posture".

Irma, I tried your suggestion and found the term "negative phototropism" (in a Wikipedia article) which is "growth away from light". Seems to be what I was looking for so thanks for the boost in the right direction. Perhaps I'll find an appropriate plant and then complain that it leans toward the house, LOL!
