Personally, I hate to see a plant block a window as I believe a shrub should flank a window on one side of the other. Besides the cosmetic effect, think of the light that would be blocked from coming into the house or the way an escape through a window would be hampered in an emergency with the way you have the plants arranged now. The windows are the "eyes" of a structure, and you need a simple approach to accentuate the beautiful bay window area. I would suggest you find another location for the magnolia and that you move the left lorapetulum to the left of the left window and the right lorapetulum to the right of the right window. Then, I would suggest you get some large patio blocks (about 18 inches square) and place them in the mulch, following the crescent shape of the bay window structure. Next, I would suggest simple accessories such as one or two fairly small wrought iron lawn chairs and a small round, matching table. Another idea would be a bird bath that is close to the ground and maybe a couple small pots of annuals. I really believe simplicity is the best way to accentuate this area.

Saucer magnolias can get a decent size ('Jane' clocks in between 10-15' high and 8-12' wide). Does that fit with what you're trying to achieve?

There are plants that look good w/ a lot of trimming and shaping. Saucer magnolias aren't one. Got a pic showing more of the area?
