Considering you have a large TV, I would guess this room is used quite often used for TV viewing. In that case I'd say the seating arrangement works well since no one has to turn at an awkward angle to see. If the chairs don't swivel, you may want to have them face each other when not in use, though I don't think it's necessary. Otherwise, I think you have a great start. Add art, window treatments (long panels would be nice with blinds for directing the light) and your good to go.

Thank you. This room has been this way for awhile because I am lost for next steps on which type of pillows, art, window treatments, etc. Room needs some contrast. I'm not happy with sofa or the wall color but instead of changing them, I think I should stick with what is and move forward and add interest in other ways. I love what you did! Thank you!!!! You are bringing up the problem I am having with coordinating colors. The paint is BM Beach glass and looks blue/green/gray throughout day and with different lighting. When I add certain color pillows, doesn't always look right in the room. The sofa is PB oatmeal. Don't want it to appear any more yellow. For picture over sofa, any ideas where to look for art?Think I want photography. Saw a cool collage I liked will try to post later.

While the glass lamps are pretty, I don't think they carry enough substance to hold up to the dark furniture, so I'd look for something less transparent. I'd also add a tall something, like a free standing bookshelf in the blank wall which can be merchandised with books, and objects and such to add a little height to that area. The artwork needs to be of good scale and hung lower, not too high. A throw, a few throw pillows and you're done!

Love the direction you are going! Do you have another easy to add height instead of ladder shelf? I've got two little ones so would rather not put that temptation in from of them!

BM beach glass

It's a lovely color...work in the beige from the sofa into the drapes and into the throw pillows and that will help the sofa make sense in the room. Make sure this color appears in the art work as well.

I just grabbed something off of art.com, but artwork needs to be something that speaks to you that you love. You can look in places like home goods for art if you don't want to spend a lot of money, or you can look on line. If you want to spend some more money, then go to local art shows where you can find art that fits your location and you can support your community.

Instead of the open shelves, you could go with a taller secretary/desk, or a regular tall bookshelf...maybe put their things on the lower shelves in baskets and your more decorative items above.

If you don't like the paint, I think you should paint rather than accessorize around a color you don't like. You say you want to stick with what's there and work around it, but I guess I don't understand why. In the grand scheme of home projects, painting is pretty easy (as long as the existing paint is in good condition) and can have a dramatic effect on the look of the room. I also think a different paint could minimize what you dislike about the sofa (by providing less contrast), killing two birds with one stone.

I like the ladder shelf where Annie put it. And I think the tall curio cabinet you suggest would work in the same space for a more traditional look.

While I like the look of the chair, I would not recommend it. I bought the arm chair version of this chair and one of the legs broke when my cats knocked it over. The wood used for the legs was pretty far from what I would consider furniture grade. It looked like sapwood, no grain. Small wonder it broke. As to the style (if you bought it from a different manufacturer), I think they are too traditional to go well with the rest of your furniture.

I seem to be the only one who likes the glass table lamps. I might feel differently if I saw them turned off, though.

I think Annie has nailed it, but are you ever going to be happy with the room if you don't like the color? And why spend $ on accessories in colors you're not crazy about? Spend a day repainting in a neutral color to coordinate with your sofa, then find art work you love and pull colors from it for pillows and other decorative items.

Sorry, I'm not liking either those chairs or the curio as one is too traditional for the room, the other is too rustic. Your room right now is going with a more contemporary vibe, so I'd try to keep that going.

I think drapes will help a lot with both the wall color and the sofa color... if the sofa is PB, they might have print panels that have some of that color in them which will help the sofa blend in better... I like the color and would keep it if it looks nice with the rest of your house- as long as you like the color itself.

if you have little ones, you might want to think twice about having a glass cabinet where they may be playing... :)

I don't like the floor lamp where it is, but if you add a chair, that will help it look better... I don't know if you really have enough room though for 2 chairs... the glass lamps look ok to me- I think they'll look better when you add more interest to the room with wall photo/art, pillows, drapes, etc.

I, for one, love the wall color. You could go all kinds of directions, perhaps black and white photography. Do you have any favorite prints that you could enlarge?

Curtains, some plants, ... basket, throw, pillows, books, a tray on the ottoman, maybe different lamps shades. You could also paint the glass lamps if you can't use them somewhere else.

Maybe a sofa table behind the sofa, like above?

You guys are such an awesome team to be working with. Loving all the input. Problem I have is sticking work one style in general. I tend to put many together (thinking eclectic) but honestly it doesn't seem to work out and I end up returning items and changing mind! My style is PB with a slight transitional twist. Here is an inspiration pic I love. Wad considering this collage over sofa. I get tired of artwork that I even think I love haha so I end up taking it down. Was considering b+w photos although that doesn't add color. Will check into PB about paint colors. As you can see I love that color, maybe it's just too much of it for the whole roo. If you love the wall color, then stick with it...it's pretty and easy to work with and will tie the beige sofa in nicely.

I think some drapes like these would add the punch you need in the room, then take some of the colors over to the couch cushions. I'd like to see more texture to warm it up. You could do that with accessories. Here's a link to the drapes.

Your living room is so beautiful, I think you should put some antique wall hangings, matching pillows, scented candles, flowers.

You have a great base. Now show us what you are about! What do you like, collect, enjoy. I believe the accessories in a room should reflect the owners. A guest should come into that room and FEEL you in it. You should enjoy being in it because you are surrounded by things that evoke memories, things you love to look at etc.

I am debating family pictures (just had a photo session) or pictures I love from travel. I am going to take the weekend to do a couple of things and I will upload a new pic to show the progress. You might want to use a simple curtain such as this. It is solid but has a lovely texture. I have a pair and they hang beautifully. They look very rich in person and even have weights on the bottom to keep them in place.Curtain Panels

Also you could really create some interest by placing a few things on your ottoman.

Thank you. I think my husband loves the pillows too. I asked him to go into living room to give me his opinion on the wall frame. I walked in five minutes later and found him fast asleep with his head on the pillow :-) regarding the frame. I like the white matte but worried about going dark on the frame because I have so much dark furniture already. Any ideas? Looking into drapes now.

The curtains that were linked above have the same basic pattern as your area rug, you will wind up with the two of them fighting.

How about a stripe or a small floral if you like that sort of thing for your curtains with some colour and perhaps the oatmeal as a base colour

You do have a great start and good basic pieces to work with as you finish putting the room together.

If you live near an IKEA, check out their Ribba frames if you plan to do a gallery wall. I think they are in one of the photos that nosoccermom posted above. They come with white, black or brown frames.
