I agree with the comment to use a larger rug. You may also want to consider wall art above the bench.

I too agree with B shelly comment, but I would go with a more neutral rug, in the grey tones, , try flipping the rug around, are you planning on adding doors in your closet entry. you could also add a curtain for texture, see picture as an example

here is another picture using doors, clean and simple

Thanks for the comments I will add a curtain probably using tension rod idea & I'm def putting something over bench, just trying to get curtain and rug looking right in the space! If u have any pics of suggestions or ideas for rug or curtain colors or patterned pls post! Thanks again :)

when it comes to decorative pieces try stores like homesence, homedepot, bouclaire, bouclair atelier on line, buy what inspires you, keep the invoices and original packaging

A larger rug and a sliding door + a mirror above the bench

a much larger area rug, remove the bench and branches and in that spot place a piece of furniture like a dresser/bureau or cabinet piece for some closed storage and a spot for a great table lamp...a great spot to stow away keys, gloves, mail, etc. then hang a great piece of art or mirror above...you could also consider painting this niche and/or the niche-closet in an accent color or a couple of shades deeper than the rest of the walls. i wouldn't hang a curtain here, but perhaps a sliding barn door (the rustic wood would add some great texture and interest here!) could be mounted specifically so that it doesn't interefere with the light switches.
