Hiding a closet pole when not in use (and not using a curtain?)

We are in the midst of a major remodel with three interconnected spaces- the master bedroom, the master bath, and the laundry room. The previous owners had a bunch of little walls chopping the master bathroom up and there was a pocket door separating the laundry from the bathroom. We took those down to give us a much larger space. (Or at least the illusion of one.) And we can now also add some stud space storage. Woohoo.

So while they are framing the walls I am trying to make the final decisions around the laundry. We will be enclosing the washer/dryer with a counter on top and the space on the side of washer/dryer will be for laundry baskets. The ideal spot for a closet pole will be above the washer and dryer and that's fine except for one thing - when I don't have clothes hanging on it, I don't want to see the pole.

Does anyone have any creative suggestions for this? The one caveat is that I don't want to hang a curtain there. I was thinking maybe a false front (we are going to do a shelf above the pole) that was hinged. So far, that's all I have.

I have this. It is amazing. You don't see it, really, and it holds a lot. It is twice the size it looks in the pic. A pair could hold a family's laundry: A different Arrow hanger

In case it isn't obvious from the photos, the horizontal rod is completely removable and each vertical side collapses to be flat against the wall. If you just need to hang a few things, you could just open up one side and hang them on it versus installing the rod. Yes, thanks. I had those in my last house. It's one possibility. I just don't want to even see those folded down, if possible. It will be a guest bath as well as our master bath so it would be nice to have it a finished room.

In his batchelor days dh had a chin up bar /clothes bar (pipe) that rested on two decorative trim pieces on either side of the hallway and when he didn't want the bar there he just lifted up and out. The trim continue to look like attractive trim. Personally, if I have the space for the lumbar jocks cabinet I would be inclined to do that... Although I might use the kind of door that raises up rather than opens in the center. Note however that when there are clothes on the rod the doors must be open.

Yes so many choices. I don't mind having the cabinet open while clothes are finishing their drying. Being able to conceal things when we have company as it is also a company bath is what I want. The cabinet guy is coming tomorrow and I have a long list of things to run by him and he might have his own ideas as well.

I have noticed that those Arrow hangers are also available with
design on them and in another model where you can insert photos so it
looks like art on the wall.
