Does avocado root rot taint soil?

In my town, it has rained tremendously over the last month because of several nearby hurricanes that thankfully, have missed making a direct hit on our island. Unfortunately, the pot for one of my container avocados didn't have sufficient drainage holes and my tree looks like it has succumbed to root rot. My question is- after I remove the avocado tree from the container, is is possible to use that same soil for another tree sometime down the line? It is a huge pot (larger than a half-whiskey barrel) and it has SO MUCH soil that is hate to throw out. Does the soil become tainted with avocado root rot?
