If you're using Roundup, (Glyphosate) you can spray now with pretty good results on the grass and it may well do some good on the perennial weeds like bindweed. You're on the right track, rake and redo in the spring.

As long as they are green, the round up will work. Give everything a good watering the night before to give them a boost and then spray them for better results.

If you till next spring do it before you lay down the round up so any seeds brought to the surface have a chance to germinate and get sprayed.

Is quinclorac persistent in the soil?

I haven't done a soil test. It's hard as rock, and has large cracks in lots of places. I'll probably do a sool test in the spring to find the best amendment to use.

According to an EPA study, quinclorac does persist in the soil. I certainly wouldn't plant edibles in soil that had been sprayed with quinclorac.

This would be just for killing off all of the yard and starting fresh with new turf . A garden will happen with edibles, but it would be in raised beds with new soil. At least 10 inches on top. I would think I'd be safe with that right?

If you're looking to kill off everything, use Roundup. If the Roundup doesn't hurt the bindweed (it probably won't), then use quinclorac on the bindweed.
