I think I prefer the second layout. Do you have ideas for lighting? I like a warm feeling to room, i.e., I prefer cream shades to white.

Is this a rental or a purchase? If it is a rental then you are very limited in what can be attached to the ceilings. I this is a purchase you can change out can lights to hanging fixtures.

That is wonderful! Then all you need is the list of the building rules and policies regarding interior work guidelines. I know many of the ceilings are concrete between floors but you can get around issues by doing a drop ceiling areas that you would like to run electricity.

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a very similar layout (at least the kitchen/living/dining area). I also like the second design but for me I'm looking to add more storage. I was hoping to have a sideboard but that doesn't seem like it'd fit (I have a rectangular dining table going horizontally). I was wondering if it's possible to rotate the table 90 degrees so it's going vertically in the floor plan. That would free up enough space to put a 16 inch-deep sideboard along the wall where the mirror is in your design. Any thoughts?
