To be honest, that looks like part of a compound leaf. Can you take a photo of more of the leaf as well as the tree itself and perhaps the bark?

Leaflets too slender. If you can get pictures that show more, including the twigs and the whole tree the thread will become more useful to you.

Maine has green white and black ash. It doesn't have hair on it and there is a stem on leaflet so I concluded white.

I agree, so my thought was, it fell off or it's something else. Problem is its opposite so that leaves ( no pun) ash, maple, dogwood and horse chest I think.

Black walnut might be a candidate if it had opposite

Any chance at all of showing us the bud/twig end area. Bud scale scars are the most definitive way to differentiate between green/white ashes.

Sure. Also the twig and leaf stem do not have hairs.

I'm pretty sure it's Green Ash....bark and branch attachment characteristics are distinctly Green Ash (& quite unlike White Ash).

Green ash- another way to easily tell the two apart soon is fall color- green ash will always present yellow in the fall while white ash will be a medley of fall colors with burgundy on the outer leaves and yellow/orange on the inside.

Specific autumn coloring of white ash varies with the clone. But it being more than yellow is pretty consistent - at least among horticultural selections. Otherwise it seems wild seedlings could vary widely, as do those of red maple for instance.
