are you keeping the counter tops and flooring?

I do want to keep at least the counter tops for now.

The easiest thing is the try a new veneer. We have over 300 species to look at, and it can really bring out the style that you are trying to achieve. We have a lot of ideas in our ideabooks, or just browse our samples and we would be happy to help.

A light sanding and some Old English or Formby's wood renew will make a world of difference.

I like your current cabinets especially since they are flat front. I am not an expert but I am assuming someone can chime in with some way to refinish them.

should I go to stainless steel appliances as right now the stove and oven are gold and the refrigerator and dishwasher are white (both in very good shape) but wasn't sure white would work with the turquoise.

From the stainless I see in your pic vs the white appliance...I think the stainless looks better.

I like the turquoise counters with white cabinets for a more modern look. The existing cabinets should be relatively easy to paint. Leaving the wood finish will give you a more vintage look if that's what you prefer. If you go with white cabinets, white appliances would fit right in.

How long do you want to wait before completely redoing your kitchen? By this, I mean replacing the countertops and cabinets. If you plan on remodeling sometime in the next few years and you're doing this update just to get by until then, I would keep the appliances since they're in good shape. If it's going to be a while before you remodel, then you may want to replace the appliances. Many people complain that stainless steel appliances are difficult to keep clean. They would look good in your kitchen. White looks good with turquoise but I don't think they would look good in your kitchen.

Try the sanding and the Old English first, and if that doesn't do it have them refinished or resurfaced,depending on the cost. Stainless for sure! I think the seating should be reupholstered in an indoor/outdoor fabric that picks up your retro look. Maybe a geometric print with turquoise and I think some orange in it for you "pop" of color. I agree, love your look.

I think stainless too. And I love the countertops. I actually like the wood cabinets (bc they remind me of my Gma's house growing up) but if they are in poor condition, I like the veneer suggestion above. I dislike the floors, but am not very good at design (why I love this site and the inspiration pics lol) so I agree with the change, but can't give a great suggestion for what to change them to. :)

Go with a linoleum tile to keep with the style if you do the floors, otherwise look for a cool runner. Dash and Albert make really cool cotton rugs in a variety of colors and patterns.

I think your plans are excellent. Refreshing the finish (but not painting) the cabinets would be great. I LOVE your counters, and I think stainless steel appliances will look great with the wood and turquoise. Definitely reupholster the banquette bench, and I love the idea of a retro fabric that brings in both turquoise and orange accents.

I grew up in a early 1960's kitchen with all turquoise appliances, so I have a particular nostalgic fondness for that color in a kitchen. I do not, however, have any nostalgia for the harvest gold appliances that replaced them in the 1970's, or the avocado accents that went with them.

Chocolate brown and turquoise would look nice. Refinish the cabinets (not painting) but consider a modern dark rich brown like the color of the desk I attached a picture of or a little lighter:

I think the current cabinet pulls would look nice with this color. Stainless steel would definitely be the way to go. As far as the banquette, I like the idea of the retro fabric but if you have children or a messy spouse you may want to go with a chocolate leather look and use a modern flare fabric either circle or square type abstract fabric on the chairs in a turquoise and brown pattern scheme. If you use the solid color on the banquette, then use the same type pattern scheme as the chairs on the blinds over the banquette or do vice versa if you use pattern on the banquette. Also consider doing the back splash with glass mosaic tile such as this:

If you used something like this on the right side then you may be able to keep the back splash on the left because it would complement it. If the floor is in good shape and you are short on cash you could keep the floor for awhile. If not, a wood zebra bamboo floor would look nice

If you get the cabinets too dark color you will loose the retro feel and it will look like you painted them. On old wood, dark stain doesn't always take well without extensive sanding. Places that came in contact with oily materials like vegetable oils will not accept the stain well until it is sanded out. So a lighter color very similar to that you currently have would not be as noticeable.

I love the retro look. Your turquoise counters are Fab! This reminds me of my best friends mother's kitchen in the 60's. He had the coolest turquoise appliances including a refrigerator that was like upper cabinets.

I would take Interiors Int. suggestion to spruce up the cabinets and reupholster the banquette . As for appliances Do keep a separate stove top and oven as they are so correct for the period. If you want to save money and really go retro shop your Restore or watch for people selling appliances because they are remodeling and have the stove top, wall oven and your dishwasher sprayed turquoise. If your oven and stove top are in good condition just have yours painted. A car body shop can spray these and they will be beautiful and durable. You don't say if your refrigerator is in good condition and there is not a picture of it. Depending on the style have it painted too or shop for a refurbished retro one and have it painted.

A back splash or at least a contrasting painted one would look nice. Be careful though because I don't remember fancy stone, etc. being used in the 60's. My mother always had a different color paint and edged the cupboards with ball fringe! She refused to remove the ball fringe from the cupboard over the stove until it caught on fire one day and my volunteer fireman brother made her take it down.

I agree with Dar Eckert about cleaning up the cabinets and keeping a similar color finish.
To keep the retro look, linoleum would be a good choice for flooring for a kitchen.
In the 1960s, it seemed the "new" appliances were often white. If you can afford to have them sprayed the color of your choice at an auto shop, it would give them a special appeal.
As I recall from the era, back splashes were painted with high gloss paint for ease of cleaning. Sometimes there were metal panels - probably aluminum, with asbestos backing, behind the stove top only. I am pretty sure metal panels like this are available these days, in a much safer material.
Pairing the shade of turquoise that your counters are with olive green was considered a daring and very modern color combination for women's clothing. I do not think the olive color banquette is an asset to your kitchen anymore. I have a fondness for turquoise countertops, having grown up with them in my mother's kitchen. Brown and orange were sometimes paired with turquoise. If I was going to reupholster the banquette, I would use multicolor one-inch stripes, but that is just my own preference/happy memory.
