5Gal Container Pumpkins

I've seen and heard that this isn't advisable. I am not looking for giant pumpkins, just trying to turn my brown thumb green, but I may be in for some real work. I've noticed some yellowing/dying of leaves. The stem is very dark green so it seems to be getting nutrients.

I started the seeds on 8/15 and the first photo is after a month. The second photo is from a couple days ago. I see some flower buds are starting to appear, but I'm worried about the yellowing. I noticed ants on my plant and am trying to combat them organically (any advice is appreciated!).

Is there anything I can do to help heal my plant? It's heading in one direction and has started attaching to the grass. I'm in zone 9 and get lots of sun where the pot is located. I'm using organic compost.

Yeah, but even it its just sand I would try and get it into the ground. At least there the roots could grow more and get access to more water/nutrients that what you have now.

Why not just plant it in the ground? I think its doomed in a pot.

I wanted to start a little small without having to dig up lots of roots if it failed. my ground is mostly sand and for a newbie I'm scared to dig huge wholes in my gard and gets major gallons of compoat and soil.

gotcha. this is my first time keeping anything alive beyond myself and a couple easy maintenance desk plants. since it's started attaching to the ground and vining would it be best to plant it in its current location.

It is normal for plants to get rid of some old leaves. You will need fertilizer soon though. If it is not a miniature variety, you might want to keep only one fruit on the vine. Check if your vine has rooted into the round, because that means more water/ nutrients getting into your plant and better chance for fruits.

I am by no means a pumpkin expert. .but I also have bad soil and didn't want the plants taking over my raised bed so I read that you can plant them in just a cubic ft bag of garden soil or compost. So far its going well, my plants are about the same size as yours.

I've noticed that the plants seem to lose older leaves. The same happen ed with my cucumber plant. As for the ants I've had good success with sprinkling cinnamon on the soil in a circle around the stem (but not on the plants).
