If they were mine I would dig a trench about a foot deep, to put the plants in.

I would dig them with as much root ball as possible and place them in the trench, cover the roots with dirt, and keep them moist. Probably won't loose any this time of year.

With the weather like it is, I don't think there should be an issue either. You could probably go straight from where they are to their new home, if you have time to dig the new holes.

They are probably ready to go dormant with the lack of rain we've been experiencing. I say move them and baby them through the winter. I had better luck keeping the extra special plants in pots for a year before I placed them in the ground. It was easier to keep them watered and the potting media seemed to help them recover from being dug up. I don't remember losing anything and I moved trees and bushes along with the perennials.
