I'm no expert, but I have a general understanding. Next year start as many plants as you are able. You might get some that are more like one variety or the other but you may get one that is more or less the same as what you had this year. Save seeds from the closest match to what you are looking for and then the next year do it all again. Each year that you can get what you want the odds should increase that more of them should run true. It might take many years to get them stable so that all seeds produce that tomato. Plus you will also have to take measures to keep it from crossing again.

If you are sure that what you've got is Black Krim x Sun Gold, you can do it intentionally in a large scale, that is cross them yourself and save seeds from the crossed fruits. Now you will have an F1. give it a name (eg, Black Gold). You can actually sell the seeds and make some money.

First, please understand that the odds highly favor it merely being a throwback of Sun Gold, a reversion, rather than an actual cross. All depends on the parents of Sun Gold (unknown) and how dominant they may or may not be. Sun Gold often has green shoulders naturally and the size gene is one of the first to revert.

You don't describe the color of the rest of the fruit. Is it black? If so then the odds it is a cross increase since color is a recessive gene. If they were any shade of yellow, gold, orange then it is just a reverted volunteer.

If it is an actual cross and IF you can stabilize it over a 5 year period by doing what hoosier described then yes, you can call it whatever you wish because it would no longer be Sun Gold so no patent infringement.

Hello Dave. Not black but a pretty standard tomato orange, definitely not Sungold orange. What makes me think Krim is the shoulders but also the seed goo is that bright green. Anyway it don't really matter, taste is fantastic and I love that it grows on those long trusses. Been reading your stuff for a time, you've got some staying power my friend. Thanks for the reply.
