I'm afraid you're right. Looks like you still have some tile work left to do so you could fill the niche with the penny tile or even the gray tile on the walls and make it disappear. I'd opt for making it disappear.

... Do I change the niche to match the floor? The floor to match the niche? Fill the niche with something that blocks it and pretend it's not a problem?

If you could fill in the niche then you might be able to add a shelf or two that would take the place of a niche. Something that wouldn't call so much attention to itself.

I think it looks great, put shampoo bottles in there and find something else to work on. Move along nothing to see here... LOL

I love the gray tiles of the shower it looks modern but warm. Nice job.

You definitely have way too much going on in your shower. Remove the current niche space tile and replace it with the same tile used for the flooring.

I think it looks great, too, and think you could be over-thinking it. I love your wall tile and your floor tile. If it really bothers you, though, I would simply change out the niche tile to match the floor tile. That would be a small change and may make you feel better about your great project!

My contractor says I'm overthinking it, too. He suggests we wait until the vanity, countertop, etc are put in to make our decision. He thinks that will change the way everything looks. I don't see how the niche and the floor can ever coexist. But we shall see. Thanks for the feedback. It gave me the confidence to stand by my concerns.

I never put a 'feature' tile in a niche, too busy. The niche should be made from wall tile so it disappears.

it may not work with the rest of your bathroom, but wood sleeper planks made from Ipe or Teak on the floor is certainly plausible. I did it once in a very large shower (although it wasnt done as a "fix").

The thing that really makes your niche look wrong is the outline in light colored pencil tile. If that was darker (at least the color of the walls) it would look so much better.

It would take 20 minutes to lay the wall tile in the niche. Do it now and be done with it. I do agree the pencil tile is what is highlighting it but that would be a harder redo. There is so much grout line sin that niche tile you could go right over it without issue.

I think it looks great! Matching is not important, making it complementary (which it is) is key. Here is a bathroom that we designed in LA that has complementary tiles that look fabulous, but do not "match"....which is what gives it dimension, depth and interest.

I think the bullnose tile is way too big for the niche. really draws your attention to it. I would just use the same tile from the walls or the floor tile (love the floors and walls).

Keep the floor tiles and change the niche tiles

I love the niche and the wall tiles - they look great together. Not crazy about the floor tiles with either of them, 'tho. I'd either leave it as-is (if you love your floor) or bite the bullet and redo the floor tiles.

Of course, nothing is really so far off from just-right that it wouldn't be perfectly livable!

Is the added marble on the threshold and pony wall making it better? Or changing anyone's mind about what I should do?? Thank you all for your input so far. It's been so helpful.

Does anyone know just what is involved in removing the bull nose tile around the niche? Is it possible to remove it without destroying the other tile in the niche or on the wall? Would you literally tile over the mosaic tile in the niche? Would it make any sense of to re-tile inside of the niche and not remove the bull nose tile - is that even possible? Sorry I have all these sub-questions. To those who have suggested that it looks fine, thank you. You're advice is very helpful too. I just need to understand all my options. I am not quite trusting my contractor to be honest with me at this point.

If you have a good tile person they should be able to remove the bullnose without damaging existing field tile. It would be very difficult to re-tile the inside of the niche without removing the bullnose tile.

In regard to whether you trust the contractor--------if YOU (not everyone posting) is not happy with the result, then if you are ok with the the financial aspect of paying to redo the niche, then re do it. You have been given various opinions from Pros and non-Pros. Non of our opinions matter....if you don't like it, change it.

What if you put your shampoo bottles, body wash etc in the niche and see if you can even notice the tiles. We have two niches in our shower and they are both full with 'stuff'

If remove anything at this point you compromise the waterproofing on the shower and it could be a nightmare that would result in a total tearout and rebuild at your expense. Leave it alone and fill the niche with bottles.

I just installed a niche and it was one solid piece of plastic with a flange where the pencil tile is so I don't think you'd compromise the whole shower if you carefully removed the pencil tile.

Of course you need to make sure of the type used in your shower.

The marble, the wall tile and even the niche all work together. The floor tile ... not as much. What would be easiest/cheapest to redo? I'd redo the floor with what you have in the niche. Then, everything would be "gray."
