Expanding front of brick colonial

I live in the Northeast and have a 1940 brick colonial with a flat front (typical of these homes). It has a side porch which I have since enclosed in white hardiplank. I am interested in putting a small room up front sort of like a "mudroom" but would be more attractive that would bump out the front and move the front door forward about three feet. (currently when you open my front door, the staircase is right in front of you) I am having a hard time finding design pictures online or even what to call this proposed structure -- enclosed portico? Thank you for any design help, ideas, or pictures. I don't want to put vinyl siding up front but realize it will be hard to match my old brick.
