This week's blooms...

Been busy trying to clean out the beds. I'm finding lots of older roses dead under the piles of pine needles and the out of control underplantings. Some of them were small own roots, some are my Carltons' florist roses; and most are irreplaceable. It's disheartening to say the least.

But there's always others... like these:

BLACK MAGIC

CANADIAN SUNSET

GARDENS OF THE WORLD

HENRI MATISSE

HOT COCOA

IRISH CREME

JADE

JULIO IGLESIAS

KALEIDOSCOPE

LA ROSE OPTIMISTE

Oh wow!! Many lovely ones!! Love Tom Brown, kaleidoscope and Irish creme! So sorry you've lost some that are unreplaceable. I've let weeds get outta control in a couple areas and lost a couple too. Thanks for sharing, Judy

To me, the colours seem to be more intense and deeply coloured. lovely, all around,

    thanks for posting.

Amazing how many flowers you have in the heat of summer, Beth, and they're very pretty. My favorites are Henri Matisse and Julio Iglesias. I had Julio but after the first beautiful year it deteriorated, possible from root competition from the butterfly bushes flanking it. I'll have to look into Henri Matisse now, which I almost like better.

Beautiful, Beth! Sorry to hear about the losses though. You still have a gorgeous collection!

My condolences for the losses Beth, but all your survivors are truly amazing.

Sorry for the roses you lost, Beth! Can't keep from loving Black Magic. Also Nantucket, Pure Gold, Silverado and Tom Brown.

Tom Brown looking fantastic. And the color of Hot Cocoa. Wow. But it's Jade I'm inviting to tea. Oh heck, Irish Creme can come too.

    Great blooms Beth.

I was looking at Hot Cocoa - Carruth 2002 - on HMF. Also goes by the name Hot Chocolate like two other roses. Hot Chocolate - Simpson 1986, which I grow is very similar. Do you have it as well? I suspect that some of the photos on HMF under the Carruth rose are actually the Simpson rose, or am I wrong?

You are tempting me again! I had marked Hot Cocoa off my list but yours sure makes me take a second look at that one. Party Time is great too. I bet you are going to tell me it isn't available anywhere aren't you?

    Thanks guys!

Sharlene there are actually 3 roses with the name "HOT CHOCOLATE." Besides the two you mention, there's the florist rose as well. I happen to have all three. I imagine some of those pics might be under the wrong one.

Beth, HMF lists a few places that might sell PARTY TIME, but I bet none of them actually have it now. I know Hortico doesn't, and they're listed as one of them. If I'm not mistaken, it was originally a Weeks rose.

    Those are wonderful roses!!

What are your thoughts on Gardens of the World and la Rose Optimiste? I was thinking of getting those roses.

Party Time knocked my socks off. I love strongly colored roses.

There are so many of your roses that made me go wow!!!

GARDENS OF THE WORLD is a beauty, grows tall. I almost lost it a few yrs ago. LA ROSE OPTIMISTE I just got from Palatine this past season, and I love it!! It shot up to almost 5ft and the blooms are sooo cool. I'm glad I snagged it. I don't think they offered it this time around.

Here's another pic of a more open bloom:
