Yeah, sometimes code can be a pain to the design. The best thing to do is to get outlets and covers that blend in with the backsplash. Oh, and one other thing, it is very common for photographers to remove outlets and plugins via photoshop ;-)

thks so much. NEVER occurred to me that they might have been photoshopped out.!! I also saw some connected to the undercabinet lights in Houzz photos, but are those up to code? and 2) Can I put outlets up flush with the lower edge of the bottom of the upper cabinets rather than in the middle of the backsplash? so they blend in more? or does that violate Americans with Disabiity act because they are too high?

you can have a strip under your cabinet. after a year my toaster didnt stay plugged in any more though. : (

and yes, design magazine (not sure about houzz) regularly edit out outlets, electric cords, and light switch plates.

Would you post a picture of your painted outlets? I would really love to see how they look. In what city is this fellow located?

why try to paint them when you can put them under the cabinets. We did this in our kitchen remodel 8 years ago -- looks so nice. Backsplash is nice and clean. Just think about how your kitchen functions and if you always leave a coffee maker or maybe toaster oven or blender on the counter, then in that place, only, put the outlet on the wall behind that appliance. Otherwise, hiding them under the cabinets is a great choice, and really reasonable.

Check out Lutron they make colored ones and they are cool the plug part and the cover is colored not just the plate and if you change your color schem you just order new snap on pieces.

I just got ok from electrical inspector for under cabinet plugmold outlet strips and for two in counter top receptacles made by Lew electric, pufp.ct.ss, close to sink where there are no uppers. So I SOLVED IT. BO OUTLETS IN MY BACKSPLASH! !!!!

Carhicks, here is a pic of the painted outlet. This guy is in the Denver area. I just have boring tile but you should see what he does with outlets in elaborate granite backsplashes. It's amazing how he can duplicate the granite.

Obviously these outlets come in numerous finishes, and are simply another option in an increasing list of alternative kitchen e-outlet location and function.

*They may also be purchased with USB ports for powering/charging phones, tablets, etc.

You could do a raceway, hidden at top of backsplash, concealed by light rail on the front of the cabinetry.

you could also look into the Legrand Adorne collection. They have under cabinet outlets that hide and have options to power under cabinet lighting as well. Beautiful line, and great design!
