Replacing an outdated ceiling fan

Should I replace this with another fan or a chandelier/light? Ceiling in room is low until right in front of fireplace where it becomes high, so fixture is not visible from far away.

do you get a usable breeze from that height? if not, really, put in a chandelier.

Not really. That's what I was thinking but not sure what style and how far down to hang it since I don't want to hide the trimwork and clock.

If you don't use the fan, I would replace with new chandlier. If you need the fan, they have ones that look like a pendant light.

i'd advise a chandelier that is large enough but that you can see through, not a solid glom.

I would paint the insert over your fireplace an accent color...........this color taken from your hearth stonework. I would select something more exciting than a clock for over the mantle. I colorful painting would maybe be the best, but I have placed an antiqued glass mirror for this illustration and included a double tier chandelier to replace the fan.

I really like this idea of the mirror and chandelier! Where would you recommend I look for these? Also I am looking to become certified as an interior designer. Can you recommend an online school? Thank you!!

The mirror was from Ballard Designs

The chandelier from Circa Lighting, though I'm sure there are lots of chandeliers similar in design.

Ahhh yes I checked Ballard and unfortunately it's too long 84"....trying to find a shorter one!

use a mirror if it reflects something nice. if you can hang art opposite it would be good. if it just will reflect a heating vent and something awkward, i'd use art over your fireplace as you have lots of real window going on there anyway.

Like I indicated, mirror would not be my first choice. Looks like the room could use a painting over the mantle.

But wouldn't the mirror reflect the chandelier and be ok??

The mirror will reflect whatever is dropped down from the tall ceiling. Right now I don't know if that is a blank wall or balcony. Have to always be careful with mirrors to know what will be reflected. Yes the chandelier will be reflected in a mirror.
