Are those all batiks and is that what we should use?

No, some are batiks, some are tone-on-tone, others are small prints that read mostly solid - if you click on the photo you can enlarge it and see it better. Probably anything that uses brights and not big patterns would probably work well.

My three went out today.

For this block, can I use WOW for the white? Also, I've seen this block made by using HST's for the black and white sections (which results in an additional seam, but less waste). Or should we all be doing the quilter's cache method, so no seam on the white section? Thanks!

WOW is great. I would recommend following the CQ method so the blocks are consistent. Thanks for asking!

These are all sooo gorgeous!! and, since I've not been able to do lotto blocks for a couple of months now, decided to do these ...i've missed it! So, does anyone else have a real problem doing 'scrappy'??? I have about 140 2" squares cut..ready to sew (I'm making 4 blocks). Thing is, do you close your eyes n grab? or ....plan it out? This is why I hate those charm packs that tell you to separate darks n lights....it takes me two months to see what fabrics I want next to each other. (Or my friend would tell you it took two YEARS!! Hahahaa). HELP!!! What if two colors are touching??? or in the same spot on a different row??

Beth, I never do "totally random." I put too much effort into a quilt to rely on chance to determine layout. It would drive me crazy if the same fabric ended up right next to itself. I always plan it out to a certain degree - like having the same number of a certain color on each half of the quilt for balance. I think we each have to do what works for us.

I'm like Lois. I just can't seem to do scrappy. But, I accept my failings and carry on. I can fake a scrappy with the best of them.
