I'm no expert, I actually came to get some help for my own outside paint. But it seems to me that if the red is jarring to you then you need to go with something softer. If you're not a loud accent color person then you can't really go wrong with black. But I do think a greenish blue would really nice and not be to hard on your eyes. I also think the trim just looks really clean and bright the way it is. But then I have dingy cream trim so I am jealous of your brightness.

Your house is pretty! Where do you guys live? I don't know if it was the word "Nantucket" that is making me think coastal, but I think a medium to darkish blue would look nice, a hue with some gray in it maybe?

HI - You have a plaque on the front of your house that looks like it 's maybe a dark green ?? If so why not paint your door that color . A very dark green is very classy looking. When you do paint , also paint the trim that is around the windows on the door and side lights and the trim that is on the sides of the door and just leave the outside trim that is around the whole door unit the cream/white. All these ideas will work. It just depends on what tone you want to set. Aqua is fun and lively, Dark blue is sedate and traditional, green more organic and understated (love Essex Green). i like the red but it looks from the photo that it leans toward a magenta when it ought to tend more toward the orange of yellow to pick up the tones in your siding colors.

What ever color you use make sure to use a high gloss finish. Alkyd is shiniest. Paint the trim around the lights as well their being white really has a kind expedient feel. You want a shiny classic door
Then paint he sidelights in the trim color. Only the door should be painted in color.

I'd consider a dark brown - almost black or the dark green to pick up the color of your sign. I would paint all of the trim around the door panes as well as the door frame pillars the same as the door. It looks a bit chopped up with all the white on the doors and sidelights.

Thank you for all of the wonderful input. The sign is only temporary. We did a major renovation inside and out so the General Contractor and architect both hung signs up during construction.

We haven't painted it yet! I am leaning towards bm Essex green though.

I like the red door as is. Red and tan go together well. But you don't like it and that's what counts. I would go with the same dark green as the sign, or a dark brown--natural wood looking color. The tan with white trim looks lovely, crisp and sharp. Pretty home.
