What are the best accent colors for staging a home to sell?

Everything in our home is neutral; white, black, medium/warm wood tones, chrome and nickel, tans and browns with some gray here and there. What are the go to accent colors that would be appealing to the widest range of people? My personal preferences are red, yellow, green and royal or navy blue, but I am very willing to decorate to please the buyer and not myself. What is selling homes right now? Thank you for your comments!

A light aqua blue and a light apple-ish green seem popular. But I'm not sure I'd add a bunch of accents just before selling -- if your house is based on neutrals, the main thing is to clear out as much clutter as possible. Other than that, I'd check with your listing agent for an specific tips for your property, but you may not need to take your decor in a new direction ...

We have spent most of our time in this house working on remodeling projects. There is literally nothing on the walls except a mirror in the master bedroom and furniture is very sparse. I am planning on trying to pick up things here and there over the course of the next few months as I find deals, but I know I need a plan or I will end up with a mess....not that this has happened to me before;) I like the idea of a vibrant navy blue, and I have plants that will add a green color. Would it be okay to add in a bit of red here and there? One of the articles on this site suggests that red does not look good in photos and I need to sell quick!

Not sure of the type of items you are considering? Consider colors that have a wider appeal - ie: red is a color you may either love or hate, while blue or grey is a safer choice and something more people may gravitate towards. What exactly will you be adding and that will help people to suggest. Art can be vibrant and fun, pillows in patterns and shades that work with your home's color scheme is best. Adding a small rug in a natural fibre is appealing to many and will warm up a space..it doesn't have to do with vibrancy but how it feels.

I agree with blue, or even a pale aqua. Stay away from bold, primary colors. And yellow. I would never buy a house that had yellow in it. But that's just me.

Thank you for the great comments. I will be buying; curtains, pillows, art/wall hangings, lamps and a few end tables and accent chairs. I will be keeping it very simple and on a budget, of course. I think I will stick with the navy, but what other colors? I am going to be using the same accent colors in the whole house so there is probably room for a little more color. What do you think?

Would suggest the following: curtains - go with the same color as the walls and it will make the room flow/feel larger. Art - any color. Pillows - to suit your couch and your bedding. Can you "rent" furniture and art instead of purchasing, in case they won't suit your new home. Navy is a pretty likeable color but may get boring if done in very room. Good luck in selling quickly.

i'm very susceptible to seasonal colors... if your house is going on the market soon soon think russets and golds. no actual pumpkins, just autumn colors in pillows or throws. transition after thanksgiving. hope your house is gone before you need to worry about winter!

oh... but i don't mean for the photos.... just for the showings.

Neutrals with pillow and/or art with blue, turquoise/Aqua and lighter apple greens. Make one of these colors a dominant one

Go to Home Goods to see which colors are popular in inexpensive artwork, pillows and towels. In my local store, sea-themed art in aqua is dominant at the moment. Buy a few pillows in different colors, take them home and see how they look. Take photos. Keep the best one and exchange the others.
