Get a carpet runner that runs the full length of the hallway. Get a new radiator cover. Add artwork above. Paint front door a color to coordinate with rug. Add plaque (s) above door. Exchange small desk for a colored one. Add lamp. Replace chair with a lighter color.

I like Brandi 's idea about getting a paintedbench and a rug . but get a nice long cushion for it . Move the chair and table to another room and move the mirror on top of radiator area. Maybe a simple print where the mirror was located . Just to add a little color and accent that lovely wooden entry

Red won't have has much as an impact. Just find a rug and accents with red. Yes, it would be nice to have a decorative rad cover. The front is a metal screen-see pic. where's your b& b?

Is your new home a prairie / craftsman? The woodwork is beautiful! A long runner will protect your wood floors and give the eye something to look at other than wood. Your door mat looks out of scale with the door, get one as wide as the door and sidelight panels. Yes on the rad cover. You can do red in entry, but since the kitchen is not open concept to entry, you can go with a complementary color. The little chair is lost, so a long bench maybe with drawers underneath for storage, or in the corner a reading nook with wingback chair and small table and lamp.

What a relief! You are not asking if you should paint wood! Smile. I like all the suggestions offered already. You could think about painting the walls, channeling craftsman. Or you could pare down everything in the foyer and push the wood / walls with its simplicity and add an oriental for color. Your current accents furniture and mirror really blend with the woodwork. I'm also wondering if you might consider swapping them out for painted furniture ( red bench) and a simple antique gold mirror.

Actually I was thinking of painting this pale yellow! It is the colour I have in our present house right now and it brightens the space! Thanks!
