I am also leaning toward #5. The colors are more subtle, and allows your painting, chairs, & other like kind colors to take the spotlight. Ikat pattern of #6 is too bold, detracts from all the other wonderful elements in the setting. #3 is good, but a little too much blue, just as there's too much brown in #2. Good luck!

1 seems to have nice color for your items, and after seeing just rugs, I like the pattern too.

Seems a fair amount of tan in your room. What else is open to view?

Seeing your inspiration pic for #6, I certainly understand why you've added it; however, in that pic, there are graphic pics on the wall above the FP as well as a graphic FP screen. I'm not sure how that would work in your room, especially with a corner FP. If you do decide you want to go with #6, think about white/dark grey graphic curtains and even graphic pillows on the 2 chairs.

I guess the question I should be asking: Am I...and my living room...transitional or contemporary???? I like both looks!

Everdebz: that was very helpful! I read both the transitional and contemporary. I feel I'm more transitional. I love a bold rug that is showcased online and in magazines, but for me...my solid teal wingback chairs with nailhead trim are MY showcase pieces. So how do I accent them?

Any chance of taking Bev's photo and placing your teal chairs over it?! Does that kind appeal at all?

It takes me a bit to think and get my words right - but a bit too much dark pattern of couch pillows - place some patterned color behind the chair as posted with curtains.

Rug 2 is a lively mix with teal chairs but steals away from them - what do you think of the rug I posted which might echo teal and seems old-world clock? A grounding base for soft pillow fluff?

More rugs out there with more teal in them.

3 deserves a closer look, if you want a mix [transitional!?] toward elegant, feminine. Its lilac and such is pretty, how it mixes with "fur" soft pillows. :) But the dark brown pillows, no. Maybe post photo without those and the too-white garden stool /don't need contrast in room with dark tv unit - it's all about those chairs :)

IMO the rug pattern was made to coordinate with your furnishing selections. Adds color to the room and texture, & pulls in all your colors.

This would be my distant second choice. I think the blue in the rug is not close enough to the teal color of your chairs and clashes with your art selection and will not be a successful choice IMO

This last selection IMO just doesn't work for the room. I love Ikat, but this is way too much pattern IMO and doesn't make reference to the two blue chairs at all. Also I would consider eliminating the light kit on the fan. The quality of light for the room is terrible when compared to table or floor lamps.

Is your room laid out so that you might swap places with the sofa and the TV? Hard to tell from these pictures but your room might function better that way.

Five - classic and subtle - number six would get old really fast I think - too busy and to dark and heavy feeling.

I agree #5 will be least likely to go out of style.

5 seems muted robin's egg blue and earthy tones, and could be a nice bridge between your dark items and teal. BUT it might be too green, and too terra cotta. This isn't easy... what many do, bring one home.

Third, I was drawn to that... it compliments the blue's in your furniture well in my opinion!

Columbia93: I do not have windows in my living room other than the doors and the fireplace has this weird step in front of it that is next to the doors...if I bought curtains, they'd hang to the floor on one side , but puddle on the step on the other side...damn corner fireplace! Great choices though, thank you!

Everdebz: I do like the rug you posted; however, I feel at 9x12 it might be too dark in the space. Also, thank you for taking all the time to give me your thoughts and opinions. I truly appreciate seeing things through other people's eyes.

Beverly: Thank you for choosing rugs I never would have thought of! It offered a great, new perspective. I also appreciate he design board you created showing the couch and chairs "on" the rug. Two questions...Where can I find this rug and two, do you feel it's too matchy-matchy with the existing couch pillows? Finally...full disclosure...this is a rental. We are moving in June (military). I know, I know...what if the next place doesn't work with all this? Well, I will make it work, but my goal when starting this was to have the living room essentials...couch, recliner (husbands request), accent chairs and a coffee table. I'm holding off on end tables. I figure a 9x12 rug allows all front furniture legs to be on the rug, allowing a comfortable seating arrangement, regardless of room size. I know, I'm crazy. But if I lived with the next location always in mind, I'd still have my futon in my living room....lol!

Leelee: so the layout is the best I could do. The breakfast nook/kitchen is opposite the fireplace (to the right of the French doors). When I switched the couch and tv, the recliner blocked the entrance to the breakfastnook and was too close to the accent chair (which were then angled in front of the fireplace). I took the above photo from the front door/foyer. So, again, if the couch and tv were switched AND I move the recliner to the other side of the couch (instead of by breakfast nook), you'd see the back of the chair when walking in the front door....yuk! I'm pretty stuck as is. And you're right...corner fireplaces SUCK unless you have an amazingly large space to arrange furniture around it and it's meant to be the center of attention.

Since we're just bumping - what do you think of the curtains to highlight your chairs?

Everdebz: I'd love curtains to highlight my chairs, but unfortunately the fireplace has this weird step in front of it that extends to the French doors. So, basically the curtains would fall nicely to the ground on the right side of the doors, but puddle on the weird step to the left of the doors. My living room has no other windows in it. :( Thanks, though.

I'm going to keep on this cause the eye would move so nicely from art to fireplace to chairs/curtains - and highlight even their profiles like a piece of art! :)

So, any chance for a rod to be rounded away from the step? Ikea sells them -- hang from ceiling, and people won't see it from the side. Different sizes finishes.

Everdebz: there are white blinds currently on the doors. We use them everyday. It leads to our back porch and yard. :)

I wish someone would photoshop curtain options on your door. So helpful to see in the room.

Because you asked -- I looked as well as I could, at your fp, and seems bit of traditional details there? Photo?! Photos never hurt, only help.

Also helps if accessories on fp and sofa are removed for a minimal look, emptied out.

BeverlyFLADeziner's first rug posted is definitely my favourite... modern, snazzy and ties everything together.

I'm not a designer so I may be completely off base (and open to constructive feedback on that!!!), but I think you fall in the transitional area if I'm not mistaken. Everything in the room has the same contemporary (current) feel. For instance, if your chairs had queen anne style legs instead, they would be from a completely different era of design, which would make this living room non-transitional as it does not all fall within the same consistent category. This is of course my interpretation of transitional and non-transitional, this is why I'm not an interior designer ;)

I see this as a very transitional/traditional space and not contemporary. Several great options to complete your look suggested.

Just putting this one out for a feeler. I WOULD to change my artwork over the couch and please ignore the middle (lumbar) pillow on couch...I don't have that one.
