I am a first timer at growing plants from seed. Recently I bought some shelves and extra seed cartons with the intention of growing plants from seeds. I know almost nothing about this venture and I was hoping I could get some help.

What I was hoping for specifically was a housing that was adjustable up and down. What the best type of light for drought tolerant plants like succulents and cacti was and a system that could efficiently light a space of 36 inches in length and 14 inches of width. I would also be very grateful to know how far away the lights should be from the seeds.

Bonus points to anyone that can offer a system that won't burn a hole straight through my bank account. I'm not sure and doubtful LED systems will work for succulents in particular, but I'm open to hearing about them if you have experience using LEDs on cacti.

There are so many lighting systems that claim to be the best, I wanted to hear from other growers what the best really were.
