Better get your laundry done. With so much rain already and another 5 to 10 inches to come *before* Joaquin arrives we are subject to loose power. Think Fran and Floyd.

Larsi wish we could send y'all some rain!

Thanks Larsi. Guess we're pretty used to them. As a rule they are not so bad this far inland. Sometimes they do come up this way. Fran was one of those. Raleigh was in the eye. My oldest daughter was in college at the time and was out side playing with her roommates. Be Still my heart. Silly kids. I really do hope you all can get some much needed rain, a nice slow soaking rain.

Mitch last I heard it's expected to take a more eastward turn but you know how these storms are. Always keeps us guessing. I believe you are closer to the coast than we are in Raleigh? Batten down the hatches and stay safe and dry. We went to WM and got batteries, snacks, ect. But thankfully we do have a generator that we got when Fran came through. And everything but the ac is gas so it's good.If the pine trees in the neighbors yard behave themselves.LOL

I have lived on both coasts of FLA all my life so I know what's involved in assessing the risks and knowing your home's vulnerability. I'll be keeping an eye on the reports and will be hoping for your safety.

Be safe, Bea did you buy some bottled water?

Wishing everyone on the east side of the state the best.

@beaglenc, I'm hoping it makes that turn. But.... in case it doesn't, we can only hope for the best. We might just get some pretty bad rain, and that be it. I hope it's nothing more :)

Went out anyway today, and purchased a ton of supplies. I think Power-Loss is inevitable at some point this weekend (with the wind) so... tons of extra batteries & flash lights, for us. Every grocery store, is practically jam-packed, but... they weren't out of bread at-least, so that's good. I'm feeling much better about the storm tonight, then I was this morning. But.. we should all stay on our toes, until we know the storm path tomorrow night. :-)

    Also...

Mamapinky0, brought up a good point. If you don't already have a case of water bottles, at home. It doesn't hurt to go and grab a pack.

I watched the weather tonight and he said it was turning and really shouldn't impact you but said there would be a LOT of rain but that it actually would have been a lot of rain without this storm out there. Maybe he said there was a low or a front or something else causing a lot of the rain too. He was talking about SC and NC too.

As of now, they are saying the storm will track east away from the coast which is good for all up and down the east coast. But who knows? Hurricanes can be quiet fickle. Now they are saying that the western part of the state will get the most rain as well as SC.

No pink, didn't get bottled water. Had no problem with water when Fran came through.

Oh, I wish I was home, power or no. I'm actually just outside Blacksburg today (in the Blue Ridge) to take Mom back for a recheck on her new knee. It has been truly horrendous here for days with flooding and landslides. (A mudslide literally blocked her last appt.). There is no question we will lose power up here -- probably tomorrow, tho. Thank heaven my sisters caught up Mom's laundry between outages. But now their basements are all flooding -- they have homes and several rental properties near VATech campus, so many fish to fry. I am worried, tho, to have to leave my house unattended. Prayers to all. I hope the hurricane does not hit New England.

Lizzie, Bea...and everyone else are you all ok??

All ok here. Just a LOT of rain and some wind. SC is getting what was predicted for us. They are really having a rough time of it down there. Wake county is under flash flood watch though, thankfully we are nowhere near a body of water.

Back in NC with my soggy, soggy lawn . . . So much damage nearer the coast.

I saw people out in boats(in neighborhoods) in SC although they were telling them stay in if at all possible.

My sister called me yesterday from Rockwood TN, she was on her way home from Kentucky, she lives between Raleigh and Winston-Salem NC..I haven't heard from her since so I'm assuming all is fairly ok in her neck of the woods, but of course I don't know for sure, she did say she would email me a pic when she got home and I did get the pic......Lizzie what part of NC are you from??

Mich are you in NC? I know my friend Bea is...you know where my thoughts are headed don't you folks? Lol....Sparky are you in NC?

I am planning on a trip to NC in the spring I haven't seen my sister in 7 years.

Yes, apparently we like our laundry super-clean here in NC! I am just south of Research Triangle Park in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area.

Lizzie...I know nothing about the areas...but your like in Raleigh? Sounding good...don't you think Bea??? Lol..spring isn't that far away...lol

@mamapinky0, Yes I'm in NC. We lost our power, for a few hours this weekend, but nothing major really happened to us thank god. I just had some minor flooding in my basement which I was able to control.

I heard South Carolina got the brunt of the storm. We somehow managed to miss most of the rain, but we we're still soaked to death. Either way, I'm just happy the Hurricane didn't make landfall.

And it's bright & sunny here, today. Love that! :D

On another note, MizLizzie... Blacksburg VA, is just Beautiful. And don't even get me started on the Campus... lol.

1,000 year flood!! How sad to see those homes, businesses, and cars underwater. We were there 2 months ago and it's/was so lovely.

Prayers that there are many more rescues that what I've seen on TV in the last 24 hours.

    Yes very very sad.

LR get-together...I'm all in. Having organized and attended many Cooking Forum get-togethers, I know the great friends one can make. If my calendar is clear I would join the get-together although I don't have the knowledge that most of you do, I'm here to learn to clean better.
