Not clear if you mean the inner drum is askew with respect to the outer tub, or that the entire tub/basket assembly is shifted within the machine's cabinet.

First scenario could be a broken drum spider, which is a major repair.

Second scenario could be a broken shock/support strut or spring, which isn't as serious.

I have a Miele tech scheduled to come out, but the appointment is over a week away ..

Does anyone have any experience with Miele service and this type of issue? Would they be able to repair it on the same day? Any suggestions on how to get it fixed sooner? Or is it time to look for a new machine?

(I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area if that makes a difference)

I have the same washer. As far as I know, Miele service is available only from Miele. Please let us know how the service visit goes.

I have the Miele W4840 and the washer stop working suddenly with an error code of F53. The Miele technician came out and diagnose it as a defective drum. He said it is not an in-home repair and it will cost thousands $$$ to repair. My machine is eight years old however; the usage is 780 hours. Miele does not sell a full size washer and dryer in North America any longer, you can only purchase a compact size. I purchase my pair with the pedestal. My options are limited with Miele as for repairing or replacing my washer. I am very disappointed.

Sorry to hear nirango. It sucks when you buy a premium brand/premium price only to have whatever ROI you deem it.

Having driven german almost for the last 20 years, I approach it as such....it's great in warranty, and if you plan to keep it past, either be handy mechanically enough to fix it (parts still may outweigh the decision) as the service call might not just a eye shocker...

FWIW, my TOL Miele DW crapped out on me on year 5. The part if I recall was $300 and that's assuming it fixed it. If not, then I was out $300 + more parts to be ordered. I hemmed and hawed at it for awhile....and ultimately purchased another Miele to replace it....

Just helped one of our family members install their new LG's into their new place that they moved. Pretty decent machines. Not german though ;-0

My W4840 has lasted over 11,000 hours and 13 years - and still going. I have used Miele certified techs as well as other well meaning techs that call Miele and try to have them walk them through the 'fix'. I think I may try to purchase a professional version as I LOVE my 4 cubic foot washer. The closest I've found in the residential size is 3.53 cubic feet.

Glad to hear Tiffany has had such good success with hers. Mine is about 23 years old and has about 6000 hours on it. Drain pump just gave out. Pump cost is $115 from Miele. It was relatively easy to fix. If you can work on cars you can work on a washing machine. Hardest part is moving it. But removed top, front of machine, and rt. side to get to pump assembly. Tool count....#2 philips screwdriver, T20 driver, T30 driver, pliers, and a pick to pry out tension ring for front seal.. This is all it takes to disassemble and replace pump motor.
