Gain

I've been meaning to post something about this. Obviously, it's not Top-Rated... or a Huge brand, like Tide... but I'd be curious to hear what you guys have to say about it.

The "Original" Liquid bottle, I have from three-years ago... smells, well Clean. Not something I'd write home about... but I could imagine it smelling very clean, and pleasant on bedding. I need to try it ;)

If anyone here has used the Powder or Liquid, I'd love to hear what you think about it.

I like Gain and I have all 3 versions liquid, powder and pods. I use it on sheets mostly and it can get a little sudsy. If I have a load with stains I just put in a booster depending on white vs color. I like it a lot and always have. The pod versions have stronger sweeter scent than the powder or liquid but not overwhelming at all (to me). Gain also has Icy Fresh Fizz which is a more old fashioned clean scent that I LOVE as well. The powder version of Icy Fresh FIzz is the best vs the liquid version.

It's only 1 of 3 powders sold at my local grocery. I'm so tempted to pick up a box now. Original or Fabreeze scent??

    I'd get Original pawprint

Gain is a nice detergent. It has a chlorine scavenger that really helps clothes retain their color. I believe (but may be mistaken) that the chlorine scavenger in gain is the ingredient in tide total care that was the "color care" ingredient.

I use to use it but found it didn't gets whites very clean, the scent was also too powerful. Citric acid is also a chlorine scavenger, it's in most liquid detergents.

I like gain original scent sometimes. Just have to be in the mood for it as it is very strong. They stopped making my favorite gain w bleach powder. It was the best smelling and cleaning detergent ever! Peeps here on the forum told me that the icy fresh fizz powder is similar in scent to the old gain w bleach powder. So when I run out of my persil universal powder I'm going to get some. The other gain scents, well besides original , just too fruity for me.

Years & Years ago when Gain liquid and powder detergent and the matching Fabric Softener debuted...the scent was really clean, fresh, bracing and almost herbal. My Mom and Aunt LOVED it, and I think used it for years and years! I have tried it a few times, and while I never hated it, I never loved it. I think cleaning power is ok, and of course the past few years P&G have tweaked the scent several times, and now I do not like it at all. I so hate P&G, there is no way to describe it!!!!! lol

Understandable that you would hate what P&G has done, this original Tide scent for instance came out in the early 70's a whole generation loved that scent for 40+ years than it was just..gone.

MamaP....I just do not see how and why after 40+ years of a top selling detergent and a beloved scent (Like Downy April Fresh)...P&G even felt the need to change it? They can and always do introduce new scents, so why kill your flagship products? This is an issue that in the big realm of life is so NOT important, but it drives me nuts. Also, the scent that Tide and Downy April Fresh were changed to are awful!!! If you are going to change a winner, you make it better if at all possible! Ughhhhh, I feel my blood pressure going up again!!! lmao

I still have some Gain liquid left from when I bought it two years ago. I use it occasionally on colors. I like that it leaves my clothes lightly scented without the need for waxy fabric softener.

I know scents are a very personal preference and one man's (or women's) "umm" is another's "ugh", but I really like Gain fabric softener. The one I use is the non concentrated original scent variety with the big white cap. To me the scent is a very clean (not perfumey) soapy scent. The softener is thin and leaves no waxy build up in any of my washer dispensers. It also doesn't over soften my clothes or towels and doesn't seem to affect their absorbency.

    Just my 2 cents.

Larsi, what P&G has done is wrong. How many people grew up with the scent of Tide and Downy and loved it, there wernt complaints of scent than like there is now, oh sure back in the early 70's when the real original scent changed to the new old original scent a lot of people were unhappy, but than the scent wasn't changed to candy, HELL I forget where I'm going with this..its been the worst day of my life...but no Larsi P &G is just flat out wrong...sadly its gonna take 40 years before they change it again. I can't understand why they won't it would for sure boost sales.

MamaP.....worst day of your life? Are you ok??? Worried about you! XO

Larsi remember my sick neighbor, a few days ago she told me there was to be a benefit pasta dinner at a local club for her, her family was doing ot but needed volunteers..I offered to help in the kitchen. hubs and I arrived there yesterday morning at 5am, we cooked and cooked. The family decided instead of setting up a food line they would have the hubs and I serve each person at the table after they sat, everyone got the same pasta, roll, salad, cake...it was served from noon till 6 pm..almost 400 people attended between those hours. The problem is hubs and I did everything ourselves, the cooking, and the serving, and in that 13 hours no one approached us and offered to take over so we could sit for a few minutes, no one said go sit down and eat.. at 6.15 Mamapinky removed her apron, told hubs lets go, walked over to sick woman and I smiled and said thank you for allowing us to help you today, we turned to leave, and the womans BF said arnt youns staying to clean, I turned and said I'm sorry but I've been on my feet here for more than 13 hours with no break you will have to.... FINK DISH.

Hubs and I walked out. Everyinch of me hurt but nothing compaired to this mornings pain I do after all have RA and Lupus.

What a bunch of horriable people they all were, no one can tell me none of those people realized what Mike and I did for all those hours alone, they knew they seen...I've decided I better stay away from the neighbor. Lady or I'm liable to just say FINK DISH in the english laungage.

WOW Mama...that's horrible. You're such a giving person and that was really crappy of them.

I can't believe they had the b@lls to ask "aren't you staying to clean"?

    Ungrateful...

I don't blame you one bit for keeping your distance from the neighbor anymore.

    Sorry.

Thanks George..looking back I should have said in the morning that we are helping and need help ourselves, its that damned personality of mine that thinks I can do it all, do it well, and damned with whoever..and hubs and I did do a great job, but we should have said loudly enough that we need help, we let them take advantage, I really have to stop putting myself in these situations, lol.

    Here's my Gain isle today!

@ MamaP Oh hell to the NO, they did not do this to OUR Mama!! The nerve to ask if you were going to clean, after you spent hours and hours with Food Service (and the time you spent getting services for her and with her gross laundry)!!!

What is wrong with people? I am so sorry! You have a heart bigger than your laundry stash, and this should not have happened to you. HUGS!!!

Thank you Larsi, I know its partly my fault, I kept a smile while I dang near killed myself, I should have gone to someone and said..I need help. But I'm always so darn concerned with what people think about me, I hate the thoughts of anyone talking and saying negetive things and I usually go out of my way to overachieve, just so people won't gossip negitivily, that doesn't work, gossips thrive off of saying nasty things. Larsi I'm even a worse sucker when it comes to someone that does not like me, lol, I will sit back and allow someone to deliberatly say things in a passive agressive way to me, and I won't call that person out on it...why..because than I would look exactly like that person wants me to look..for me Larsi its always been about what people think about me...actually its not all that bad a personality..it has kept me in check at times when I've wanted to lose my cool..lol..so ya I sometimes allow myself to be used shamefully just so I'm liked...lol...I do need to learn to lighten up a bit though...haha

13 hours? WTH is wrong with people? Also if she has a BF why wasn't HE doing her laundry...

I hate the smell of regular Gain (I didn't realize they changed the scent because I remember not liking it before either)

My housemate bought some a while ago and the scent really stays in the towels and when they get wet again they smell like public restroom disinfectant :(

The other scents they have that I've smelled in the store all smell like jolly ranchers, and nothing like whatever they say they are.

mama-boy that just Stinks about those people treating you like that! The nerve!

OH HELL NO!!!! You and your husband cooked for 400 for 13 hours with no break and not even a thank you!!!!!! I can not believe some people. I'm proud of you for not cleaning up. Lazy a$$es can have at it. You are much too good.! Pardon my French but really I just can't understand some people. And after all you have done to get her help.

@mamapinky0, wait..... Did the """Sick""" women's boyfriend ask if you were staying to cleanup?

That's why I'm not real big on volunteering. I work 5 days a week and have no intention of killing myself at night or on the weekends too often. I will volunteer occasionally for my church or for a really good cause, but i'm also a big believer in resting my aching feet.

Mich yes it was the sick woman's boyfriend, the whole family all adults boyfriend, sister, daughter ect...sat around laughing ect..I swear they acted like they were at a wedding reception not a fund raiser for their dying loved one and hubs and I were the HIRED help. They should all been on their feet except the sick woman of course busting their asses as much if not more than hubs and me.

This is PRICELESS the sick woman just left here a little while ago she brought me a little porcelain dove..she said** my sister said this was left over from the little thank you gifts that we gave to our helpers we thought you would like it*** Left over...left over...and I'm supposing by thank you gifts to the helpers she was talking about the manager of the local VFW who donated the hall and people that donated the food...because she sure wasn't talking about the 2 that did all this work..and than to say it was leftover.. I won't help this family again, not a snowball chance in hell will I help again. They trested us beyond bad..but guess what, I have to remember she won't be here this time next year..that's when I will tell her family what I think of them lol

The only place, I ever really volunteered was at a Gay Youth Center & a (non-profit) Animal Shelter. There was also a weekend for "United Way" which my whole store was encouraged to show up, when I was working in retail.

With that said... I'm the kind of person, who'd bake muffins and send dinner over for a new neighbhor. Or offer to babysit, or simple things. But I never go out of my way like you did, mama pinky... Because I find, that... People generally don't appreciate it, and it's a waste of my own time.

Volunterring your time at a Animal Shelter or Church or Something, is so much better rewarding. Because you help a bunch of people... And you get to see the progress your making first hand.

I like Volunteering. It gives me a little bit of time, to step away from my world, and help others. But I'm not going to help people, who don't need the help. I'd rather help where it's actually needed.

Growing up playing tennis, at country clubs, I have some pretty colorful terms I could use to describe this POS people you encountered. But I think... I'll keep the words off this site.

Thanks Mich, I forgot to mention I have been sending this woman's dinner over to her daily, I suspect her bf ate it but I've retired my services. Lol

Also.. Look into your local rotary club. I've been to countless meetings over the years, and... Those people really are amazing.

@mamapinky0, I knew that. I just didn't know she had a boyfriend. His lazy self should be doing all of this, what a piece of work.

I went and helped with "Meals on Wheels" a number of times. We'd go and take lunch & dinner out to those, older who really couldn't cook for themselves.

Some of these people were in there 90's and 100's and had some of the most amazing war stories. Just... It was amazing meeting most of them.

That's how you should spend your time. Helping people who really need the help, not those worthless, classless neighbors.

Mich..lol..not gonna do it, I get myself in enough trouble not looking for ways to help people, imagine if I went looking lol

I'm just shocked you answered the door for that crazy lady. Most people would turn the lights off, and pretend to not be at home.

A nice thank you gift would have been a good touch but to go on by saying it was "left over" was so insulting! Some people are so accustomed to taking advantage of the generosity of others that they come to expect it. I had a neighbor once that "borrowed" food morning, noon and night. I shared what little I had until I found out that she was borrowing so she could "put on the dog" for people. She didn't think a thing was wrong with asking to borrow anything. I found it very odd and classless. One time she even wanted to borrow my houseplants so her home looked more homey to a prospective suitor!

Curiosity got the best of me...and I'm not sure if I should blame her, I know the benefit was for her but I'm also sure she was overwhelmed with all the people are commotion..who knows if she even knew what was really going on...Mich I'm making excuses for her, I know, I just hate the thoughts that it was her I was helping and I got treated this way..but when she came in my house and I had my knee braces on ( dang RA) she said nothing and since she's never seen me wear them since I only wear them first thing in the morning, wouldn't you think she would ask what's wrong..nope she didn't say anything. .thats when I realized I was no fool helping her, but I would be if I did anything else for her. Nope I'm done with her and her family.
