Sidelights will be changed out later (as budget allows) to something simple or more in style of the house.

What about painting your sidelights trim the same as the dark brown trim on the rest of the windows... or is that they actual window that is dark? Would you ever consider painting the front that isn't brick to a warmer color?

I am not loving the bright tomato red door. Do you have to stay with red bc of hubby? If so, I would use more of an earthy brownish red. I think I would go with oil rubbed bronze. If you could get away with it, I would consider a green gray for your door. Either something like this or deeper and richer.

I'm not sure bright bright really works with a Tudor. I think Tudors do well in earth tones or subtle, softer colors. I do think BM Wythe Blue is a wonderful front-door color. Also, black. I think black has sophistication.

If you paint the recessed light trim at all, I'd spray paint it with black.

Definitely don't paint the dog. Big mistake. White goes with everything..

I think either of the door hardware will work. It's hard to even really tell a big difference from the pic. Is there one IRL?

I like gold for your front door. I think it would look nice with your new dark lockset.

I also like the grayed green color as shown above. If your hubby is adamant about staying red, then choose a better red for your brown bricks.

Artillery, the dark is the window-we will be switching them out (all of them:(). But I'm tempted to go with the bronze color. ETA is a year. No on painting the brick even though I don't love the brick color it's maintenance free. Tell me if you'd do sidelights too or sidelight and door trim or just door.

tibbrix,. The new hardware is squared rather than oval and ordering wasn't a big deal until like everything else in this house it's custom since the holes are already drilled:/. I'm shocked you said black. I love Wythe Blue and I tend to love the grey/green colors. I worry you won't notice the door since its recessed already if I went with dark. Bolt, the dog does go with everything except cats:(

Long term I have thought about changing the entire house style to more of a craftsmen style by switching out the strange window bump and go full gable length with cedar shake tops instead of the stucco. Then add an arbor patio from the door to the driveway. ~probably another thread~. But I wanted to kind of try to embrace the Tudor a bit first.

I think you have a lovely home and your dog is a great accent! I'm not sure teal would work with the tudor style though. I like the idea of a soft gold or a sagey green for the door, either would look great with the bricking. As for the trim around the side lights, it seems it really depends on what you're end goal is. If you paint the trim in a matching gold, they will surely stand out more; if you use the sage on the sidelights, they'll show but not as much and maybe in a softer way. If it were me, I'd probably leave the trim brown. When you look at sample pictures of tudor homes with trim matching the door, it looks too busy and that doesn't appeal to me.

Ok, just ordered the oil rubbed bronze Madison by Baldwin. Now, on to paint color. I have to sand down the overlap of the previous oval mounts and will need to pick a color and paint before I install.

Trib, I think the Wythe Blue is beautiful but I agree I should look for something more earthy. I think my brick makes it hard.

BM Caliente would look great if you want to stay with red because it is an earthy red rather than a bright red.

Holly-Kay Caliente may be a winner since hubby is set on a red. Fiery Opal seems like a good match too but might read too orange. tandoori looks interesting:)

With Cliente, I think you are moving in the wrong direction. It's just too hot for a Tudor. If you go with red, I think you need to go with a deep brown/red

If you must keep the door red I like the deeper colour suggested by Tibbrix. I'd also do as Aktillery said and paint the rendered areas a warmer shade. We did this on a previous house......see pics - when we purchased it was a boring magnolia (a popular but very boring colour here in the UK), but that just didn't do the house any favours. We changed it to a warmer, sandy colour - unfortunately I don't have a good pic of the whole house elevation in the new colour. We chose not to paint our door(s) - were we still there I think I'd have chosen a sage-y green - similar to the wood store you can just see to the right of the final pic......

I think the fiery opal could really work because it is a much more earthy red/orange, which is good for Tudors, IMO. The red you have now and that your husband seems like are good on Colonials with stark white siding and black shutters, that sort of thing, not on the muted, earthy Tudors.

Mimi, I like the dark door you pictured but I like it because it is not blending into the brick . Your house is charming and much more embracing of the English Tudor style. Your details; window pattern, light and plantings are really well done.

i will pick up a sample or small can of the Fiery Opal tomorrow. Still looking for inexpensive Tudor hammered numbers. I did find a Tudor exterior light @ Habitat Restore (my price point RH is HR, LOL) that really suits the house and at $15 I couldn't pass up;)
