I always recommend getting a few quotes to compare, just make sure that each company is pricing apples to apples. I never recommend going with a price that seems low, in my experience that can lead to a lot of extra costs at then end or a lower quality of work. Professional and reliable trades will come in at comparable prices!

Our local Ben Moore shop told me to expect quotes from the good painters to be about $3.50 per SF. By good, they indicated someone who would get in, do the job properly, and get it done. I got several quotes and they were right in the $3.50 range.

I'd still get another quote. that 9800.00 seems a little low for all of that painting. Are they painting all of the ceilings - ceilings usually run up the cost. Are they painting one coat or two.

Kitchen cabinets are a significant extra -- that can be several thousand on its own, depending on the size of your kitchen, and probably involves different expertise than do walls and trim. I'd honestly consider getting separate quotes for the house and from the kitchen, from totally different types of guys.

A better price for worse work isn't a bargain. Sprayed vs rolled isn't a better bargain. A builder's recommendation for fast and cheap vs a designer's one for slow and meticulous isn't a better bargain. It's not just about number of quotes and brands of paint. It is about the actual job that you get.
