i have like 6 from seed

the largest is 2 or 3 ft tall,, some of the others just never took off.

ive read they really need to correct microbiology in the soil, and i think thats why most of mine are still small, and a few have died.

the one plant that is larger is in a larger container is doing great.

the one i have in the ground is starting to take off as well.

the pic is 2 months old, it has put out 2 growth spurts / leaf sets since...

remarkably this seedling took 27F temps last winter and didnt bat an eye. no damage at all.

i think the temp swings in small containers stop the correct biology in the soil from happening.

they seem to respond well to fish emulsion , worm tea, and comfrey tea

these are all 2 1/2 years old or so.

Traditionally in China, breeding Lychee varieties happens over several generations (and I'm not talking about plant generations). A variety is associated with a family. It may start with the grandfather and the sons carry on the tradition and keep germinating the new seeds from the Lychees that show desirable shapes. Different families vie to produce the best Lychee. One can see why the process of Lychee breeding is most suitable to the Chinese, the seedlings take so long to reach fruiting maturation that developing new strains is just not an endeavor that a single individual can easily accomplish.

but, there is the chance a seedling will produce good fruit.

often close to the parent, sometimes just as good.

If the parent tree produces fruit with %12 brix, and your fruit is 10, i wouldnt call it a failure. there is also the possibility it will be better.

i plant on grafting 2 or 3 varieties to mine when it gets a bit larger, but leaving 1 branch as original to see how it tastes.
