i'd switch the solid orange pillow for one with some of the chair color.

I would start by removing the small yellow plate on the wall, it looks too lonely. A bigger table lamp would make a good statement. The art opposite the stairs needs something to ground it, like a shallow console table. There, now I've spent all your money! I like the pouf you chose.

I like the idea of adding some of the chair's color in the room. Cushion, throw, vase, art etc. just to tie it together.

I do like the chair & pouf you have purchased. Not sure if brown velvet drapes will allow enough light into your room. Maybe just do them as side panels.

You;ve done a good job, but I echo the thought of using the chair color (coral?) somewhere on the other side of the room.

The chair definitely has some pinkish undertones which I didn't realize until I got it home. But I like it a lot so I'd like to make it work. The chair I had before matched the sofa, and some of the accents that are more in the orange family were left over from the prior set up. So it looks like I need to swap some of them for coral red ones.
The brown drapes are panels, just a touch wider than the current ones. So the light still gets in (the slider is huge, which is not obvious from the pictures) and they give the room a cozy feel when snow is on the ground.

@coc7, the picture I have over the sofa is 3x3 feet but I do have a couple of other options so I will try them out and post some pics tomorrow.

I agree completely with Charleee about the gold plate thing and the other lonely art. Otherwise it looks great!

Maybe a chunkier lamp

The TV area is a bit to busy for me. I would take away the Paris sign and candles on the top. Edit out some of the little things on the shelves. The gold plate needs to come down.

First, replace the rug with something fun centering the new rug, sofa and coffee table on the FP. Lower the art to 5" above the sofa and remove the lonely plate and the container of sticks under it. Angle your new chair right of the FP and try some new pillows. Here is a bit of pink and brown that you could pull off in your hotter pink palette. Agree the shelves could use some editing.

Decoenthusiaste, I love your suggestions but unfortunately the current layout is the only option for how I use the room (the chair is my knitting/TV watching chair so needs to stay where it is and have the task lamp next to it). But I think the layout you suggested is really neat and I will definitely try it out when I am staging the house for sale!

So I think we have a consensus on the plate ;-) So many of you commented on it that, even though I'm partial to it, I will take it down. Question is, should I replace it with a new piece or leave the space empty. Let me know what you think of the alternative I put there.

And finally below are two options for replacement artwork over the sofa (I included a better photo of the current picture for comparison). What is the verdict?

It wasn't the plate. Anything small and lonely out there is going to look kinda pathetic. I don't think you should replace it with anything.

@drdeb1234, got it :-) I felt like the empty space needed something but it seems that a bigger artwork over the sofa is the answer. Do you think any of the options I have would work better than the current picture?

And I will look into replacing the lamp as well.

Thanks Margo. I am thinking of replacing the red/orange vase on the right hand side of the cabinet with something slimmer. That should help further. I have a couple of decorative objects I could try in there. And I will try taking down the candles and the vase on top and see how it looks. I have 9 ft ceilings so I feel like there needs to be something on top of that cabinet, but we'll see.

So one vote so far for the original art over the sofa!

The chair color is proving to be much more difficult than I expected. Finding a pillow or a blanket in that shade of pinkish red has been impossible so far :-(

The pouf came and I switched to the winter drapes. I decided to go in a different direction with the pillows - kilim pillow covers that I always wanted. I picked ones that had brown and some pink/red elements. I also lowered the picture and got a new lamp which I really like but it is a tad to tall. I am planning to try a similar one but shorter instead. What do you think? Does this all work?

I like the pouf, but not where it's placed. Try moving it around, and farther from the coffee table, and take more pics

Thanks drdeb, I like the pouf as well - it is being used as a footstool for the chair or the sofa so it moves around the room. The placement by the coffee table was kind of random. What do you think about the pillows?

I like them! I think the whole room has a nice warm eclectic feel.
