I would see another vet asap, your dog is still in pain and I would not wait a few days for x-rays.

i agree, you need another vet to get another opinion. it *could* be a disk problem in your dog's spine. treated asap, these things often get better with steroids. left untreated, it will only get worse. whatever this vet did obviously did not help much, if at all.

Oh i am only waiting for the results on valley fever . We do live in Arizona and that is common, i was gonna wait today and then get another opinion :(. Or just demand on the x ray. I guess she said since they need to seduce him for x ray she wanted to wait if he will get better. This is so heart braking to watch your pet being so helpless and they cant tell you what is wrong. What doesn't make sense is why a vet needs to medicate such a small pet for an x-ray, especially one that isn't able to move on its own. My vet takes x-rays all the time without meds. Maybe her intent wasn't to use meds but thought physically restricting him would be too stressful on his heart.

It does seem odd that such conservative care (watch-and-wait) is being given for such serious symptoms. The vet may be exploring differential diagnoses but slipped disc is certainly one of them. I would contact the vet to ask why the x-rays need to be delayed and the reason for sedation. I've never had any dog sedated for this procedure and they've all been VERY active.

Agreed I have had several of my Great Danes xrayed and never sedated them. It could definitely be related to a heart condition, that is a common symptom, collapse and unable to move much. But a spine problem could do it too.

Hi everyone. My dog is at the vet since yesterday, i decided to give him IV since he wasn't eating. They did x ray everything looks fine, they did find that his heart is enlarged ,but she doesn't think that is the problem that my dog got sick. However , they want to treat the heart with pills too. So for now they are treating him for pancreas infection with antibiotics and IV since he wasn't eating. I am still in shock that all of a sudden my dog collapses and and even after pain medication and antibiotics he doesn't seem to be doing much better . We are also waiting for a results on valley fever to rule that out since we live in Arizona. Someone mentioned on some forum to check him for Adison diseases too. I will keep you all updated , thank you so much for your help and concern.

Thank you. Yes i had bunch of family problems this year in past few months, so this was really not something i was looking forward to at all.

HI everyone. Another update on Arie . He came back from the vet where he spent 3 days. She didnt seemed to be improving much with IV when it comes to his legs. His pancreatitis got way better though, but it wasnt until they started to give him steroids that he actually started to be better. He is home now and third day on steroids, and doing great. Finally my dog can walk, eat, and drink and go to the bathroom out in the back yard by himself .He even barked today few times :), he is way more alert and his appetite is back. I havent seen him collapsing on his back legs all day today. The vet thinks that even though she didnt see anything on the x ray, maybe it is still a back problem. I scheduled an apt with an ortho just in case. Thank you all for your help and support. I hope he continues to improve. It was so hard to watch him half dead :(.
