This is a 2 part question. I completely gutted and rebuilt my walkout ranch. It is roughly 3000 sq ft up and 3000 sq ft down. So ALOT of work. All the doors in the house are 21 and 14 panel solid mahogany doors, they are stained a custom mix dark mahogany and are amazing. I matched the hardwood in the house to the doors. I ended up trimming the upstairs with a 5 1/4 in painted a cream colored white, but left the door jambs stained.

question 1: should i painted the door jambs, or leave them stained to match the doors.

I am debating on the trim work and color in the lower level. I built a large bar with concrete counters, and a coffered ceiling, The bar has raised panel wainscoting, and I pulled the same panels into other parts of the basement to tie it in all stained to match the doors. I also built a handful of large recessed panels in the wall for back drops to artwork that is also stained to match the doors. Very little wood will be seen when the art is up. maybe 4 in around all sides. I trimmed the lower level out in solid wood 5 1/4 in poplar. I was planning on staining it to to match the doors, and not painted.

question 2. Should i stain or paint the trim in the lower level, do you think the my custom dark mahogany trim will stay in style, or is it even in style. Best way I can describe the color is almost like the dark vanities you would see at lowes or home depot
