I cannot guarantee virus free plants from these sources but
they are aware of this problem and attempt to ship clean plants that are true
to name.

You already know about Alice at Karchesky and Brian
Williams. I have known Alice for years and she and Dave Karchesky spent a
couple of days at my commercial growing location prior to my retirement.

Tony Avent is a superb horticulturalist and typically
provides quality plants at a quality price. Their selection of canna
cultivars is limited but should be healthy. Tony and Brent Heath also spent

Brent Heath’s selection is also limited but the ones they
provided to me were healthy.

AG3 Inc. is a tissue culture lab in Florida that list and has
provided me with virus indexed cultivars. Unfortunately they usually to only
sell to firms with a tax ID number for retail sales. You might get a local
nursery to purchase for you.

I no longer know where you might find any of the Australia
cannas. I use to converse with Bernard Yorke on an infrequent basis. He developed
some very lovely cultivars. At one time Alice was importing a few of his
introductions but I am not sure how that worked out. That was about the time
the virus issue became a serious problem.

I am not sure what or where “Annjee” is or to what it refers.
Help me out of this one.

You might check out Keith Hayward’s site in the U.K. if you
are interested. Importing cultivars from there is not practical because of the
necessary phytosanitation certification expense involved. It’s more trouble than
it is worth to the supplier.

The Crozy canna group is quite common. If you will or have not
already done so, read the information at

I can elaborate further if you have questions but this group
of cultivars refers to their breeding heritage and the lack of any of the c. flaccida
heritage contained within the genome. That heritage produces a certain shape
flower head or bloom. Crozy cultivars are typically capable of producing viable
seed as opposed to most all of the c. flaccida crosses which are typically
sterile.

I spoke with Alice in regards to Bernard and she actually said his cannas were badly infected and actually put a huge dent in her stock...she stated it took her awhile to recover. She tried to inform him and he denied it. Seems like he hasn't been selling online since.
