Hello Dina, Thank you for your kind words! It's a wisteria here in this picture.

I don't have a problem with wisteria being a thug but once it gets extremely mature it can be very heavy & I then there is a worry about the weight of it pulling against the wall. This one is 10 years old now & the wall is absolutely fine, The house was new at the time & the building contractors ensured the fixings were secure before we planted. If you have concerns about your particular wall, you can plant wisteria on a structure beside the house such as a green oak walkway? They look superb.

Hi Joanne, Thanks so much for your advice - a supporting structure beside the house sounds like an excellent idea, especially since my house was built in 1936 and I do sometimes worry about the strength of the walls. Also, I am in Johannesburg and suspect that after 10 years the wisteria may end up bigger than the one in your photo, due to the combination of summer heat and summer rainfall.
