wall of mirrors help

need help to make my dining and living room more cohesive. the main issue is the wall mirror on the wall running the whole length. I like the mirror but want a creative way of showcasing it. or maybe breaking it up some. the dining room chairs are wrought iron and wood. i'm afraid they will damage the mirror when pulled out. the table is an orange color wood. the sofa is black and tan- burlap texture. Any ideas or what color to use on walls and what furniture and accessories to add or get rid of. any suggestions would be helpful.

Buy some pictures (www.greatbigcanvas.com) or pillows, and draw your color pallet from those. Your furniture styles are different, but if you paint the walls the same color, or different shade from the same color, you can unify the rooms with pillows, seat cushions, table center piece and art that has the same pop of color in it.

Part deux- can you change the chandelier? Maybe something with dark wrought iron? Since black is the unifying element in the furniture. Put a big piece of art on the dinning room wall, and a similar piece(es) on the wall next to the gymornous tv.

you are right about different furniture styles. i was thinking of covering the table and chairs but not sure if that is a good idea. that is my dilemma; what can i do with the existing furniture to make both rooms cohesive?

you have to imagine the tree is no there, so there is just a big empty space in the corner.

Don't be afraid of an empty space. If you fill that corner with something, where would the tree be placed next year? :- ) As for the mirror, I seen a photo online that shows pictures/paintings hanging on a mirrored wall. In other words, treat the mirrored wall like any other wall.

I wouldn't cover the furniture. If you really don't like it anymore swap it or paint/stain it. Wood is great that way. You can get a biggish fake plant and put it in the corner, then put it in the garage during the holidays.

To start with the mirror, you could do wainscoting along the bottom half of the wall. This will update it a little and will be a little less work then removing the mirrored wall. As for the rest of the room, start with throw pillows and art work. Pick out some things you love and then draw your wall color from there. If you were to add a bunch of pillows to your sofa and a nice colored blanket, that alone would spice up your space and start to pull it together!

I have the same problem in a power room with wall to wall mirror that the previous owners did. You can only imagine what I am seeing LOL. I hung 95 inch drapes from side to side and from the ceiling on a tension rod so only part of the mirror shows. An easy solution. Maybe you can do the same for the dining room. I think I see a beam where you can put a rod. and then bring in the same drapes on the other windows in the LR.

Here is what your table and chairs would look like with an ebony stain. And your Chandy painted to look like wrought iron. If you, or someone you know is good with a spray can, it's easy to change your dated brass light, and its curves go with you dinning set.

Could you add some trim, painted black, to the mirrored wall? The simplest way might be to paint the existing trim around the mirror black and then add the same trim to cover the seams between the mirrors. Or try something fancier, like the photo. Consider replacing your chandelier, or perhaps exchange the glass hurricanes for black shades. Accessories in orange pick up the tone of your wood table. If it's in your budget, a larger console for your TV would also be nice.

I was going to say you can stencil the mirrors, but I like the grid idea above, a lot.

What if I changed out the dining chairs. What kind of chairs would go with table and make dining room blen with living room.

well you could paint the DR furniture black, the chandelier chrome with black shades. the walls light gray. add a square dark coffee table and textured pillows and a pinstripe drape. fine and subdued.

OR you could have some real fun with the space:

paint the table turquoise, the chairs tangerine. (table and chairs MUST be distressed to pull off the look) the chandelier rasberry with clear beaded shades to relate to the mirror.
fill a glass cylinder with lemons as the centerpiece. or a vase full of multicolor bright ranaculous, zinnia, gerber daisies or poppies.

LR : add a distressed, reclaimed wood square coffee table in teal.
some large bright canvasses and pillows with colors from the dining room. hang a contemporary geometric print window treatment. maybe a turquoise on natural ikat.
this would be a cheerful , fun , welcoming home!

Here is an update on the family room/dining room combo. I started a discussion for the update. What do you think? Any suggestions now? I'm thinking it needs color.
