My wife will respond tomorrow I think. I can say that yes, we like the cutouts and we did them by the two main sinks. It is important that they be done properly as if the workmanship is poor, the water will not drain well. Shorter cutouts would have the advantage of a potentially steeper slope for water drainage. They certainly look better than a drainboard.

Gorgeous remodel with stunning cabinets. Totally agree with jhmarie's comment that the kitchen looks completely updated, but retains old world charm consistent with the age of the home. Also love the new butler's pantry which uses glass doors to make the space feel more open and bounce more light around.

Thanks All! I do like the drain cutouts. You do have to dry the cut outs during humid summers. A draining board isn't pretty and quite frankly they get really dirty. I do keep a kitchen towel to the side to turn items onto their other side as the items don't completely dry on the cutouts. Or, if I've time, after I've washed the pots and placed them on the cutouts, which does drain away a good bit of water, I go ahead and dry them completely. On a drain board, you can leave the items, return later, and they are dry. Hope this helps. "The Wife"

Beautiful kitchen! We also just finished a kitchen remodel in our 1880s rowhouse and made similar choices--in our case, brown-stained cherry cabinets, charcoal quartz countertop, white subway tile backsplash. The look is classic and I think more warm and inviting than the all-white/gray kitchens that have been popular recently. Congratulations on a great remodel.

I especially like that you chose to keep a natural wood finish on your cabinets and that they meet the ceiling rather than have a dust catcher space atop them.

I love that the upper cabinets go all the way to the ceiling.
