Shutters, painting the door, and updating the landscaping would each be huge improvements. Your house has great bones - can't wait to see what you do with it!

I see why you purchased this home! Lovely but it could be even better. It appears you have great window trim but it blends in too much with the exterior color I would suggest a color only several shades darker than the wall color...just enough to make it pop. I would go with a stronger color on the front door. I also think it well worth the investment to have the yard professionally landscaped. Enjoy your new home!

Shutters or unshuttered, either way is appropriate for your handsome home. Many historical colonial homes didn't have shutters -- it's a traditional look too. So don't feel your home must have shutters, if you don't want to spend the money on them just yet. You don't want the big box store shutters that screw into the siding and you don't want skimpy ones either. So good looking shutters that hang correctly and are the right size will be an investment.

More affordably, I'd look into better exterior sconces, ones that look right for an old colonial home:

And do find a good landscape designer. Landscaping & exterior lighting will do more for your house than any paint trick. Your home is a classic beauty. It doesn't need much more for curb appeal. Look up images of historic colonial homes on the web and get familiar with the style. It's a winner.
