What is wrong here? (Persil US)

I bought a bottle of Persil 2 in 1... hoping to give it another try, after having horrible experiences with the US Bottle.

I'll give it this. It *DOES* Rinse better, than the Original (US) Liquid. But beyond that... Meh. This would work great for anyone, who is just refreshing their clothes, but anything stained will come out, still stained. And the scent is stronger.

This is nothing like the European Green Persil Universal "Kraft" Gel... I'm used to. The Persil... I decided to try, years ago, I fell in love with. It wasn't the "stain fader" like Liquid Tide was, but it actually.. removed stains without pretreating. It actually removed the stains. And boy... did it leave things looking white.

The Liquid (US) Persil, doesn't even fade the stains. That's what's so frustrating. It leaves them behind. I'd say it's comparable to an enzyme free detergent like Sun or Xtra.

Oh sure. It's cheaper than European Persil. And it's a whole lot more convenient, to buy it in store... then buying online. But what is the point, if you have to rewash everything afterwards, because nothing came clean?

It smells like Persil. It looks like Persil. It's not Persil.

I'm not trying to rant here. But this is so disappointing. This is nothing like the German or Euro formulas whatsoever. This is a disgrace to the name, and I don't understand why it performs so badly.

Maybe... it's just me & Larsi. But this stuff... doesn't work :( And I sure wish it did...

@Pink - I have had the same experience. Smells great so I use it on colored underware. On "kitchen" and "shop rags" it failed miserably. I'm gonna try the powder next purchase.

I tend to agree with Mitch, gave mine away. I think the US Henkel offerings are a miss. I tried all the offerings. Meh. The powder is great for stains and whitening in the short run. In the long run, I found it doesn't get dirt out of socks etc., like I'm used to with the German Persil.

Though, I didn't like German Persil liquid much either. Too strong a scent that morphed into a musty smell after washing was stored. Cleaning was pretty good though.

Now their powders on the other hand are my go to's.

@mamapinky0. The liquid, when poured was really thick... But, when you hold it to the light, it does have a watery look to it.

With that said. I actually opened one of the sealed cardboard boxes on the floor, and removed my Persil bottle out of that, instead a shelve.

So... It never had a chance to be tampered with. So... I guess, if it was watered down... It's poor quality control on Henkles part.

The Persil Power Pearls we're awful. The only thing I've sorta liked during this whole mess was the liquid-caps, and I've only used those on slightly-soiled loads.

Really. I don't think P&G has anything to worry about. People are definitely not going to switch from Tide to this. It's horrible.

And I can personally guarantee you, NO ONE was more excited about the US Persil launch then me. I just refuse to buy any more of this stuff. I've wasted $30 so far, I could have spent on a new box of MegaPerls.

@pink - no, but it's on my list. That, white revive, and Tide Vivid. The tide is off the hook expensive.

@rpsinfoman, are you talking about the Tide W/ Bleach Powder? It's $12 at Target & Walmart and lasts far too long.

Deffinatly, worth a try if you've never used it.

@rpsinfoman There's no difference between that, and normal Tide W/Bleach powder. It was just a temporary phase, to try to sell more Bleach Alternative to the American market.

They lost a ton of sales to it. Most people we're looking for there Tide Plus Bleach, and couldn't find it :(

Tide with Bleach Powder (formerly Vivid) works 100% better than any US Persil offering. I agree with Mitch...American Persil did not remove stains, that Tide would remove using 100F or less water. I was utterly disgusted and disappointed with USA Persil. Awful Shame on Henkel/Dial.

For what its worth, I just washed soccer clothes including a cheap pair of shinguards that had "ring around the shin". I had been washing them in Persil. The stains didn't budge. I just pulled them out off the washer after using Tide Ultra Stain Release, and while not spotless, they are only lightly discolored. I really want to like Persil, but it may be relegated to light duty.

You are not crazy Mamap. I have liquid American persil regular and it's works just fine. Either the manufacturing controls are defective or it's the water. A friend of mine whose husband works in house construction, and whose clothes get filthy, bought some American Perls. Loves them. Thinks they are so much better than Tide.

But fortunately, there are a lot of detergents out there so everyone can get the one they like!

@mamapinky0... I was told the forumlas were the same by Henkel NA representives. I later called in, and was told No.

I don't hate the "Duo-Caps" and will probably keep them arround. They do seem to clean best, out of all the American Persils. But... I probably won't rely upon them as much as my German Universal Powder & MegaPerls.

Theyll probably work great for you, as the other forumlas seem to have. :-)

Once I finish jogging, I'll email you a link to the thread :-)

The US persil is comparable to color persil IMO. It works well on colors and on whites if I add some Oxy bleach. I just don't like the scent. Maybe to compete w P&G they'll completely change it soon :).

I'll mention this MamaPinky. When Persil.. was first introduced here. I think I was riding on a high.. of just being so amazed I could finally buy it over here, that I was overlooking the results at first.

I was so... in love with the idea of being able to buy it, and use it all the time. But... I begin to realize, as I was unloading the washer... that I was needing to use more & more Chlorine Bleach afterwards, for stains.

I just kept thinking to myself.. well maybe the stains were too tough. Maybe I forgot to select the right water temperature. Maybe I didn't add enough, and so on.

Finally I dragged, out the Tide with Bleach Powder again.. and re-washed a load, that has just been "Cleaned" in American Persil. The difference was NIGHT & DAY. I think everything, must have come out almost three-shades whiter, and every single stain was removed.

It then hit me. That... there was nothing wrong here, but the detergent itself. I guess... I told myself, it was *real* Persil, by the powder beads and scent. I had blinders on... but, I should have been noticing how weak it was doing.

I really, really don't want anything to do with these "Power-Pearls" again. I already called Henkel North America, almost two months ago, and complained. I was told I'd receive a coupon for a free bottle, as well as a followup call... but nothing happened.

Mamapinky. I hate to break it to you, but this is not in any way, shape or form, German Persil. And.. I'm not even sure, what German Persil is like anymore.. because, Larsi has had such bad experiences with it lately.

Here's a link, to the MSDS Sheet. I uploaded it.

Oh God. You make me sound like a messy, maniac. For those who weren't aware. Me & my other we're babysitting, and thought the little one was laying down. He managed to sneak food into our guest bedroom, and make a mess.. which I didn't notice.. until a few days later.

I did do a pre-wash, and let the Persil Power Caps, have at it. They worked extremely well for that. That's exactly why I said, I think they cleaned the best out of all the American Offerings, available here.

The one thing.. that is somewhat remarkable about the (US) Persil Caps, is there made in Hungary, exactly where the German ones are produced. It kinda makes me wonder ;)

I can't say.. I could give a solid review for them though. I haven't had enough experience, with the European Caps, to tell the difference.

I was also one of the people very happy about American Persil hitting the shelves, it was after using up the first bottle of the Perls, that I realised something wasn't quite right. I also tried the 2 in 1 after CR top rated it, but it's just too sudsy for our water and couldn't use enough to get things clean enough for my taste. That and it stinks, nothing like the German stuff.

With that said... Tide Liquid, has worked incredibly well for removing oil from tablecloths.

Yellow Lemonade can be a hard stain to remove, because it contains a dye. Just as Oil or Grease can be, because it repels water.

I swear. I'm not trying to beat the Persil name down, I just am extremely disappointed in the American Offerings. Of Course.. Once Again, Larsi has mentioned that the German offerings, may *have* changed.. so, the performance could have gone downhill.

I will confirm that my last 2 rounds of German Persil, FROM GERMANY was very disappointing! Kraft Universal Gel (green), Blue Color Gel, Perls (which I have always hated), Persil DuoCaps (pods) and Universal Powder. The Universal powder (only safe for whites and VERY light items) was the best of the bunch, but still not amazing like it was for me in the 90's and up to a few years ago. The Gels, Perls (Pearls) and Pods (caps) were so awful, I donated some and some I honestly just threw in the trash.

Also, Alex in Germany (Whirlpool trainee) shared some German consumer articles, where the Persil offerings were not only poorly rated, they were NOT recommended!! Sad!!

@Larsi... I wonder if Spee or Dixian, is still any good? I might try ordering Dixian, just to see.

If you all are looking for a good European detergent, try to get your hands on some Daz. It's an English detergent that my partner brings home for me when he can. Low sudsing, has enzymes and oxygen bleach, and smells fresh. Always has done great on my stained kitchen towels, white socks, etc. I haven't gotten any lately, so hopefully it hasn't gone the Persil sucky route.

I would love Daz too MamaP and Dash 2in1 detergent plus softener powder. Both English. The English cannot do culinary right, but they can sure make a mean detergent. LOL

Just looked on Ebay for Daz. They have a 10 load size for $7.66 with $12.26 shipping U.S. Just the right size to try without too much of an investment.

@ MamaP....I meant British Bold 2in1 powder. It's detergent + softener. Euro reviews are very high. There are several online stores that sell it, but I hate paying more shipping than the item!

Larsi, let's just make a trip to London ;)

You can get your Bold. And I can bring back Ariel Powder and Excel Gel :-)

Along with Phosphate Laden Fairy Dishwasher Pacs :D

@mamapinky... I'm not so sure about Water Chemistry. Me & Larsi.. have soft water, his softened, mine natural. As do you, IRRC. There may be minor changes... but it shouldn't be significant enough, to cause a huge problem.

P&G Powders can apparently handle the differences in all three of our water conditions. So why can't a TOL Detergent like (American Persil) not? That's what's disappointing.

Or maybe me & Larsi.. are just odd-balls. We have a Persil Curse placed upon us, and American Persil will never work, lmao ;)

Oh.. and mamapinky.. RiteAid has Oxi-Clean White Revive for $1.99 after coupon this week. I'm tempted to pick it up :-)

And @Larsi, They still have a few bottles of the old-silk touch April Fresh. Not what you're looking for, but you can tide yourself over a little longer.

I just want to say that I am very happy with the Persil powder. I love the smell out of the washer. My clothes are clean too. Once dried, very faint to no smell remains.

Hi Enduring, I also really like Persil Perls US and Euro.

I'll tell why the US Persil does not work. All European clothes washing soaps and powders have phosphates in them. Therefore, all the stains come out easily and wow the whites really perfect. Phosphates have been banned in the US for years as it destroys the waterways. Just Google the problems they are having in Europe with the Danube River and the damage caused by phosphates. I live in Germany and they love their white clothes! I am surprised that the environmentalists are not on top of this!

There's no phosphates in Euro detergents.
