Try not to line the walls with furniture which will only make it seem longer and narrower and also lacks imagination. Instead, think conversation areas. Perhaps a love seat or sofa to divide the space in the middle or thereabouts. Then place two chairs with a small table between them at the back of the sofa. Or a gaming/chess table with two chairs or a desk against the back of the sofa with a chair. Angle any side chairs to offset the long lines of the room. You can also experiment with square or round rugs. Look at the space as a plus, rather than a problem. Dont be afraid to experiment.
