While the proper choice of wood with the proper paint might work for an interior shower application, the Corian is deigned for high water use with out the worry of future maintenance.

This is a wonderful look for a shower! We are about to embark on our remodel, and I wonder if one could use painted hardiboard exterior siding for the shower walls to achieve a similar design? It seems that if cement fiberboard would work on the outside of a house, through storms and such, it should work on a wet environment on the inside.

The only difference I would see is the use of soaps on a regular basis in a shower situation. I might need to go talk to the paint guys, to ask about this, as well as the best way for cleaning the painted boards on a regular basis.

OK... just did a little more research: Sherwin Williams has a product called Duration Exterior Acrylic Coating, which they recommend for cement boards. It's got me thinking! The worst that could happen is maybe one would have to replace some boards here and there over time...? I would love to hear from the professionals on this one!
