We are planning to cover a wall with dimensional ledgestone to the floor. Between the built-in electric fireplace and flatscreen TV, the wall has an alcove. We would like to keep the alcove, but it does present some design and installation issues for the stone. (The white molding framing the fireplace and alcove is temporary and will be removed.)

The problem is the space between the fireplace and the alcove is 3 1/2 inches high. The ledgestone is 2 1/2 inches high. We think this space is too narrow to cover with the ledgestone and look good. We thought of adding a rock sill in this space, but the width of the sill is only 2 1/4 inches. Other solutions we are considering are: a wood sill, or extending the black surround of the fireplace to cover this area - or possibly stainless since we have a lot of stainless in our transitional decor.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
