Hi Lar - I don't think there are a lot of Burpee fans on this forum so it may be difficult to find someone who has grown them - especially if they are only offered by Burpee. I don't personally have an interest because the fruit are only 8 oz and IMO - Determinate - because they are compact and the plant height is listed at 36-40". I know some Indeterminate plants are listed with that height but I don't believe they are listed as compact? There are only two reviews on Burpee (which is odd to have only two reviews if it is supposed to be such a great tomato!) - one pro and one con. The con review experienced BER - something to consider.

I think you grow in a GH? I wouldn't waste the space on a compact plant - 8oz fruit - in a GH - when there are so many other great producing/tasting varieties - with many great reviews - to choose from. But I have been wrong many times before!!! If you do try them - please let us know how they do !!

Hudson--I think you are right. Waste of time and I do grow a lot of matters out side too. Think I'll forget this one and grow some bush early girls instead

I am going to grow Better Boy next season and compare it to Big Beef F1, in taste and productivity. I need some workhorse. There are a lot of ponys around.

Better boyis a good matter if it will grow for you. The last four times I've tried it was a bumer. Maybe it's wore out. hehe

I have always grown Better Boy, but tried a different tomato Bonny's Best last year. It was a great tasting tomato and a fantastic producer, but had problems with disease. I went back to Better Boy this year and they are not the tomato that I remember from long ago. That was the reason that I changed and have been trying different ones. The hybrid seeds are produced overseas and I don't think that they are the correct cross. I got the Bonny's Best from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. I don't have a lot of room for a garden, but I am going back to the Bonny's Best and maybe try one more. I will just have to be better at disease control.

Well, I am going to give it a try and see how it does in my garden.

I think a hybrid seed made last year might not be the same as one produced, say 20 years ago. The parents can change , the environment can change ..

The other "BOY" is the "big Boy" . From what I have heard it has parental relation to the "Better Boy". Some prefer Big Boy over the Better Boy. But my own search has turned up a lot more gardeners praising Better Boy. It is almost a rival to Big Beef. Come next August , I'll tell you what I think.
