Phalsa berries

I just wanted to share this unusual berry species, native to India. Phalsa (Grewia asiatica)

The berries are very astringent, similar to Java plum. I was reading through some comments left in another forum and one Indian woman stated that her husband preferred eating Phalsa more than Java Plum.

This berry is not going to be for everyone, they are sour and astringent, and are probably not very cold-tolerant. These small berries are only going to appeal to a select group of people.

I suspect these berries are only marginally edible and are more of an acquired taste among some traditional ethnic cultures, but if you are looking for unusual edible ornamentals, this is one more to consider.
