Is it possible to use a more simple mounting bracket so the TV doesn't stick out as much ?

If you google tv's with picture frames, around it, that might be one solution.

I am guessing the bracket you chose gives the TV the ability to swivel, correct? You could do a "box" around the TV (to help disguise it) with a shelf above. It should not impede the function of the bracket to do it's job, only give it the look of being part of the design..... I would use wood with a similar finish to the cabinets to help achieve that goal.

I vote for a floating shelf above - ala ikea lack in white. It will fit with the classic and clean look you have going. Set it close, no more than 3" above (right above outlet trim). Set a row of colorful ceramic canisters below on the counter against the wall - perhaps in a bright accent color. The depth of the shelf (centered over countertop below - not over tv) and canisters will balance the depth of the tv. Shelf is perfect for something pretty plus a few cookbooks between neat bookends.

I had a very similar kitchen setup and what I did, which I would highly recommend if your home / budget allows, is notch the wall and set the TV in a finished box behind the drywall, allowing the screen to sit flush. I would keep it on a swivel mount as well, allowing you to pull it out and turn. The look is very clean and practical.
