Finding my style

Hi, we are waiting to hear back about a house we are buying but in the meantime I could use some advice. The front door opens to the living room, not really a problem but you can also see right into the dining room. My current living room has a 1970s mid-century TV console that I really like, a brown leather couch and bold curtains. Its not perfect but it works and I like it. I was thinking about a shabby-chic or cottage feel for the kitchen/dinning area but will that look odd? I really don't want a mid-century kitchen/dinning room. There's just enough mid-century in my living room that its not too much for me. (our current home doesn't really have a 'style' except for "incomplete" in the dining room/kitchen area.) :/
