Get the sink out of the corner. I don't think a double sink can fit in that size cabinet, plus when you open the dishwasher you will not be able to stand at the sink.

the 36" walkway to dining room is a little tight. Are you measuring from fridge to peninsula?

i would reduce the size of the pantry, too.

Are there any windows?

What about a huge breakfront (18" deep with shelves above, 6' long) on the wall where you have the fridge?

Then instead of a peninsula, do a 84" x 42" island in the middle with your sink and d/w and trash cabinet (dishes go in the free standing breakfront instead of uppers).

Then center the range behind the island and put fridge and pantry at either end of that wall.

Agree with getting the sink out of the corner. It wastes so much space so it you are working with a small space anyway why make it worse? Small not necessarily bad for kitchen, you want a work area that'll minimize your steps. Think about how you'll move about preparing meals and going about your daily activities. Use lots of roll out drawers to maximize usable storage.

Oh also think about the swing of the fridge opening into doorway to LR, will that impede traffic flow? Might be better to have fridge not by doorway for that reason, also French door fridge or side by side will minimize incursion into traffic area when open.

Take your measurements to lowes or Home Depot or any cabinet company. You have to draw uppers with lowers. You don't want a corner sink. You want stove sink and refrigerator in a diamond. How bout swinging the door in the other way. Putting the pantry behind it. use to do a little. Cabinet drawing for an arch. Measure wall to wall. Mark doors and windows measure where plumbing is now. Tell them where outlets are etc. it's free and worth it.

Janedoe2012 I cant visualize how you want the island to go and putting the fridge against a wall most ppl I've spoken to dont like that you cant open the doors all the way. The back door also makes putting anything in the other corner difficult. There is a window on the same wall as the back door. I agree that its better to keep the sink out of the corner but I would like 2 nice sized prep/counter space so 2 ppl can work at once. Thanks

I tried home depot they weren't very helpful coming up with ideas although if I had a layout they put it together. All measurements are wall to wall windows and doors marked and flexible with moving plumbing although now it is between the range and sink

is it a solid wall behind the cabinet are I guess where the dining room is. if so, have you thought of opening it up?

Or create a very big 6' wide opening and have cabs/apps along the basement wall and the range wall, with a smaller 4' x 2' with no seating.

Because I think the cabinets you show on the wall between the kitchen and dining room are too remote from the rest of the kitchen.

I like the idea (counter extends over sink wall ) but that leaves most of the undercounter storage as lazy susans which can be difficult to get to (I'm assuming the landing spot on right you stand in dorway to open drawers)

That's certainly looking more promising as a kitchen layout. Dont' know what it does to your dreams of breaking through to the dining room -- I guess the extra lip is a breakfast bar? seems like a winner...

I like this second design too. I understand your concern about having 2 corners of storage - I know there are multiple options for taking advantage of that space, I think if you do a search here you'll find some of them. I have one corner cabinet with a lazy susan and I find it decent but certainly not perfect ... my lazy susan has no center pole which helops increase its usefulness, but things still sometimes fall off, I use it for pots and pans, it is next to my stove. For the corner next to your sink, you could consider drawers that open from the dining room side, for items that you don't really need in the kitchen ... I have a sort of corner like that too, and that is how we handled it, we actually have an open area with a bookshelf with 2 drawers underneath that face my dinette (it's on other side of my peninsula). For me, the placement is by our door to outside & grill area, so I use the drawers for grill related items (and shelf for cookbooks).

You will also have to think about the upper cabinets, if you are ok with corner cabinets for uppers. I know a lot of people don't like them because of the deep space, but I have one and find it is fully functional - I have the stuff I use most often toward the front and stuff I use less often pushed toward the back.
